The Dixie flyer is a great bike! It's good that they are adding these new sizes, because the current largest size has a 58cm TT and due to the Seat tube angle- it's got Reach and Stack like a 57 DF3 or similar.
Bobby got a lot right with the DF BTB (Bobby the Bullet), but my favorite was the use of a standard Seat Post and Collar.. As Carleton will agree the Post is a big source of frustration for us bigger guys and being able to use a standard post and a quickly replaceable collar is awesome. I didn't think much about the post being 31.8, but in the end that was a big bonus as well.. I change my saddle/post every time I put on Aero Bars- so that's 2 changes per track day. The 31.8 post allowed me to put a light weight seat collar directly on the post to designate height for quick saddle changes.. Also since all Handlebars are 31.8 it made it really easy to mount your computer under the saddle with a Barfly or standard SRM mount.. |

By "fitter" are you talking about a frame builder? There is a frame builder in Colorado that specializes in frames for tall people (up to 7-feeet).
What I wanted was fairly specific. We're talking a frame with 485 reach, 2cm longer than the big Dixie. From there, it was a pure sprint orientated frame, as stiff as possible without being an absolute brick. Someone with good track frame building experience and reputation. That knocked a whole lot of builders out of contention. While Zinn may be good at big, he doesn't even list a track frame on his site that I can see. Just a single speed. I wasn't taking a chance on an unknown quantity, especially with the exchange rate from AUD to USD right now. My fitter has ridden professionally and has liaised with a lot of different frame builders over the years and has only a few that he would put the project in the hands of. Topping that off, I rode a frame built for a guy 6'6" and it was sweet. Pity it was too small for me |
This is probably the most interesting thing I've seen on the web with regards to sports, ever:
We identified 10 categories, or skills, that go into athleticism, and then asked our eight panelists to assign a number from 1 to 10 to the demands each sport makes of each of those 10 skills. By totalling and averaging their responses, we arrived at a degree-of-difficulty number for each sport on a 1 to 100 scale. That number places the difficulty of performing each sport in context with the other sports we rated. I'm sure this will help settle a LOT of barroom arguments...or start some...not sure :D |
