In other tyre news, I just put fresh meats on the boat trailer. I should probably repack the bearings too, but maybe I'll wait 'til a wheel starts smoking.

anybody have a 100/110 mm stem 6 degree drop?
I have a ritchey 120 mm I can trade if interested. With my stem slammed all the way down the 120mm feels a little too long. Want to try a shorter one before I have the steerer tube cut. |

Have now been at The Ancestral Home for a day. It looks much the same - which in itself requires some doing. Siblings look much the same too. Scrapple for Sunday breakfast has been obtained. we had corn the last two days, each time picked that day. Peaches for dessert.
Wishing I had a bike here, because then I'd have a reason and a method to escape the more talkative. Instead, I just kept making noises that indicated I was listening until he went away. |

Had a not as good as usual ride yesterday. Which is odd gor this bunch. Some guys didn't show up, some didn't bring their game faces. It was slow. One left the group on the way back. 2 went to look for him. Then we all had to wait for them to come back. I punished them all by going up front and pulling. Hard into a headwind for as long as I could. At least they stayed on my wheel.....
Good sprint at the end. |

I installed the new tire this evening. It went on the rim easily, as had the previous. Just for gits and shiggles, though, I decided to try seating it with just the floor pump, something that I've never done. After the first couple of strokes, I didn't think it was going to happen, but then I noticed the tire filling out a bit more with each pump, despite all of the hissing. The encouraged me to pump a bit manically. The tire kept hissing, but also kept filling out until both sides finally snapped in to place at the same time - sweet!

Something has been getting into our garden/compost pile.
Today, mrs datlas found the culprit: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fd11ee2a6.jpeg p.s. btw if any serious gardeners are looking, you might notice my asparagus patch to the right of the fence. |

Ok, we are going to be in LA starting in 1 week and I do want to download some possible routes onto my Garmin as I will likely NOT be taking my computer with me.
Any tips on finding/choosing a good route online? Reminder we are staying in West LA so my inclination is to head out to some of the gorges north of Malibu (eg Latigo/Gibraltar) but I am open to other options. |

The other thing that I like to do in conjunction, and this can be a bit time consuming, is to check with Google Maps, both the satellite view and the StreetView, so that you can get a feel for the road surface and the shoulder situation. StreetView is slow going, but zoomed in on the satellite images, you can see the shoulders pretty well. I still like to confirm with a StreetView peek every so often and will pay particular attention to points where the satellite view might indicate trouble spots, like pinched bridges, etc). |
