New tubeless version of Conti tires next year

Continental will finally release tubeless versions of Grand Prix 4 Season and Gatorskin tires.

Man those are some classic tires they'll be messing with. Regardless of how people feel about either of the two tires, they're both quite popular. Hopefully they keep selling a tubed version of each.

is the required sealant going to be a bag of concrete?

I can only imagine how difficult mounting tubeless gatorskin tires will be.

I'm just thinking that a lot of people went tubeless to get away from Gatorskins!

Agreed about "hopefully they'll keep selling a tubed model of each". I am no fan of the "tubeless ready" version of Continental tires. I am a big fan of their tubed models.

I had a lot of punctures with GP 5000 tubed (25 mm) and so far trouble-free GP 5000 TL (32 and 28 mm) riding in the same area.

Don't see the point of a Gatorskin TLR unless Conti assumes people will buy it based on reputation (as the de facto recommended tire for the puncture-averse and rolling resistance-apathetic) or they can make them a lot cheaper than the GP5K S TR. Historically Gatorskins weren't cheaper than their contemporaries 4 Seasons or 4K, before the price shot up on GP5Ks.

A 4 Seasons would make sense as the GP5K S TR doesn't have the best wet grip or a cold weather-designed compound. Other brands like Vittoria and Pirelli offer TLR tires that compromise on speed for grip and puncture protection.

Don't see anyone buying tubeless gatorskins, they have their demographic all wrong

Pretty much guaranteed they will make tubed versions. They make tubed versions of the GP5K IIRC.

Guys,

Can I mount these on hookless rims? Asking for a friend.

IIRC, they don't intend to make separate versions of their latest tire, GP5kS TR, though - they're just telling people to run it tubed if they want to run tubes. I don't recall seeing whether or not they plan to keep producing the GP5k/GP5k TL side-by-side with the S TR.

Considering the tires are just a rumour from a sales rep at this point it would be a bit of a reach expecting an answer for that one.
