What's a bike like that worth? I'm looking into buying one like that or similar. I'm just getting into biking and saw one online

Good Morning and welcome to the forums. First of all where are you and the bike? In the US market the Vitoria was equipped with a Campagnolo Victory group and it came in yellow in ‘86. The only other top line yellow bike Was the ‘87 Superleggera but it had a completely different kit on it.

If this was near me I’d have a hard time paying more than $450-500. It is cool color for an Italian Bianchi and has some cool parts but looks like it needs lots of elbow grease to make a nice bike out of it.

BTW comparing value between “similar” but unknown bikes is impossible. As I said I might pay $450-500 for the bike in the pics, someone else might be willing to more more. Also whilst this bike and a Celseste Superleggera may seem similar to you the Celeste color adds a premium. Likewise some brands like Colnago, DeRose, MERCKX command higher prices then a Pinarello, Moser, Olmo with the exact same frame tubing, components, age and wear.

I am in thr candianCanadian market. And the guy is asking for 650$ . He initially was asking 700

and he says its a 61cm frame

I think that’s a bit high 61 is pretty tall for a bike. Are you over 6 foot? I’m 5’ 11” with a 33 inseam and that is a bit big for me.

I'm 6'1 . I used to have a really big bike and I loved it. So 650 Canadian is expensive or fair?

I paid $800 for this a few weeks ago. Its totally stock and very close to mint. I am in the SF Bay Area though so everything is more. It is a 1985 model.
No regrets its a lovely bike and ride.

Fairlane63 that is beautiful bike and worth every Penny. But it’ll take lots of elbow grease and semichrome to get the bike in question looking like that

Yes, I think $650 CAD is quite a bit too much for that bike and, as others said, you should definitely be able to do better even in a pricy market. And that bike, with a mid-level frame and so-so components won't be particularly light either.

$650 Canadian is only about 507 US, so it isn't that bad but I'd try and negotiate closer to 400 usd. Light is a relative in bikes especially classics. The US market '86 Vittoria, with Campagnolo Victory group and Bianchi Formula One tubing, is stated as 22lbs. The topline Mondiale with Super Record and Columbus SL is 21lbs. if you add a rider that needs to lose 5-10lbs and few water bottles, pump and seat bag does the weight really matter?

Canadian bikes of this era are different from the US bikes. This might be a Vittoria that came with different kit or it could be a different model entirely or even a frame someone built on their own

I wouldn't call Formula One tubing a mid level frame.

There are many other choices out there. First, you have the entire used bike market.

On new bikes, around here $1000 gets entry level. In fact, it is rare to see a single new road bike at a shop for $1000. And thats US $$. But even a new entry level bike will have integrated brake lever/shifters. Many new riders hate downtube shifters. At the $1000 price point, you will likely get made in China (which is OK), pretty generic, aluminum frame bike. Personally, I think your money goes a lot farther with a used bike. I've owned about 1,000 bikes. Last new bike I bought was in 1975....... Nicest bike I own was bought earlier this year, and its a 1981 model. So it was 41 years old when I bought it.

And to be fair to the new stuff, even the entry level parts work pretty well. Uninspiring to those of us into vintage bikes, but functionally proficient.

Paint cracks in the downtube paint near shifters could be a result of a front collision, Look the bike over carefully for deformation. The freewheel does not have much range, you would likely replace if you are riding hills. Seat ripped? Seems expensive to me.

Is it just me or the front tire looks smaller than the back?

Agree wholeheartedly with Bill that you should be able to find a nice used bike (even one with more modern brifters) for considerably less than $1000 CAD. If you post where you are located, BF members can do a quick search of online available bikes in your area and give some recommendations.

The bulging and rusting down-tube would be a deal breaker for me. Looks like it was crashed. Also the rusty shift lever nuts suggest it will need a complete overhaul.

I've got one of these.. came with Shimano 105 though.. deciding whether to rebuild or not
