Otto

And watch out for slippery leaves. Speaking of leaves, I was out raking them and placing them in our "clear green" recycling bins yesterday. I will be doing this for the next 5 or 6 months - I'm on a corner lot and the prior owner planted TEN Pin Oak trees. These trees drop their leaves VERY S L O W L Y. I recruit all of my neighbors' bins!

30.11 miles on my lunch break, 953 feet, 17.44mph.

last time i did this ride (three weeks ago) the bike had different wheels and tires. 16.22mph! same average power to within a few watts, although i was a bit hung over this time …

Wheels and tires or just one can make a significant difference, hung over or not. Bet you could break 18 if well rested, hydrated and not hung over.

49-spot or so between two rides. combined scenery was 9+/10. pavement quality the best i’ve even ridden (on the red rock scenic loop 11/10…not a single hair out of place) and a 8.5/9 (at valley of fire sp). it was worth waking up at 5:15am…

Nice pictures. I've been told they can jump and I don't mean the antelope or sheep - the TARANTULA!!!

rsbob 10-05-21 09:37 PM

Road a whopping 16.75 miles, half of which in the rain. Trying out the fenders I mounted today on my classic. Success!

We were driving in West section of Zion National Park and my friend suddenly hit the brake. This humongous TARANTULA was out on the road and large enough to be a visible obstacle. We stopped and having never seen on in the wild walked toward it and were approaching it. Another driver warned "They can jump!" And we did - back to the car, quick!

Although I just looked and apparently they don't jump that far or high and only certain sub-species.

55 Miles O.D. Wind gusts 18+ MPH might be cool, but they're not cool with me.

mschwett 10-08-21 12:20 PM

47 miles on thurs. got my ass absolutely kicked by a 1,300' climb at 10-15%. apparently there's a HUGE difference between 8-10% and 10-15% :foo:

kahn 10-08-21 10:14 PM

20.4 and 780 yesterday.

23.2 and 1020 today.

I feel your pain, 15 of my 63 was on a tree covered MUP which is super nice during the very hot summers we have, and we had nasty storms come through yesterday and they did not send the trucks out to blow the path off as I believe they gave everyone the weekend off for Columbus day. There was lots of leaves an unbelievable amount of small dead tree limbs on the path, it was a mine field of crap waiting to run up and get jammed into my wheels. I caught one on the edge that I did not see and it nearly did that, but broke and put a nice hole in my calf. The only saving factor is that it was not raining.

Troul 10-09-21 08:52 PM

It got to a point that I was plucking organic material from my drivetrain about every 5-7 miles as it would impact the stability of the chain on the cassette.

jaxgtr 10-09-21 09:46 PM

yea that sucks...had that issue with pine tree needles before.

Troul 10-10-21 08:11 AM

49 Miles O.D. Another VERY moiiiiist ride, less leaves, but a lot more wind resistance.

Troul 10-11-21 11:23 AM

105 Miles & no moiiist weather.

same, i think. garmin died after 101 miles but should have been 4-6 more miles to the train station destination. will try to resurrect once i get home.

rsbob 10-11-21 09:47 PM

Being a complete and total wimp, since it was raining like crazy, I rode 20 fake miles (Zwift) and climbed 1000 fake feet. I almost felt fake tired when done.

csport 10-11-21 09:58 PM

85 miles, Poughkeepsie to van Cortlandt Park. No rain, perfect weather.
