Now that you mention it, the dust could be the reason I had such a hard time earlier in the week. 15 miles just killed ne for the day. I haven't been out since, in part due to poor sleep

AG could barely breathe when she woke up. It's bad.

I don't think we're gonna get any African dust over here, but there's a little bit of wildfire smoke in the air.

Hey, if ya'll like to get freaky deaky, that's all good, but that's not exactly appropriate for polite conversation.

Got in a nice metric on the new wheels. They're nice.

Also, until ol' datlas uploads his ride, I'm atop the 'board. :bday:

The Central Arizona Project canal. They're very protective of their perfectly groomed levee crowns, but there's plenty of slightly rougher gravel outside the fences.

You have such lovely places to ride. You did in Wyoming too.

seedsbelize 06-27-20 10:43 AM

I finished dishing and re-truing that wheel. It might be the straightest wheel I've ever built. Only the dial indicator method would be an improvement. And I am not going there. Then I trued another wheel, that will go on a bike I'll shortly be giving away. Again, straight and true. A Ukai rim. Who remembers those? Quite heavy. And quite wide. And 27".

It feels good to be finally be making a move to move these extraneous bikes and parts out of here. Finish this chapter and go on to the next.

And there it is. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

The rjones28 turf management regimen for the main lawn is comprised of four cutting patterns; north-south, northwest-southeast, east-west, northeast-southwest.

Indeed. Unfortunately here in PHX it's 5 miles of road riding to get to the good stuff, whereas in Rock Springs it was only 100 metres or so.

The back lawn is trickiest here. It's only about 8' wide for much of its length, which discourages me from cutting across. I did cut across yesterday, what a pain in the derriere.

The back lawn is also comprised of three different species, and I wonder if I should be encouraging one or more or eradicating one or more.

Velo, I have to cut my grass this morning. Which way do you have more success with? Vertical Lines or Horizontal? Going for pleasing on the eye as well as efficiency.

Come on! Everyone knows you find a high school kid to do it for $20-25, while you’re out riding. Not even a question ;).

Wow that was a messy ride. All good but moderate rain for the first hour. I am bushed.

LesterOfPuppets 06-27-20 12:26 PM

CBS has ladies soccer on. No crowd, but they're sweetening the audio with crowd sounds from a pre-covid game.

I put that in there for you buddy. It happens maybe once a quarter. I'd still buy the 60mms every time.

Just wondering, how far were you from the grizzlies? Nice photos BTW.

I didn't take them as I am not part of the plowing crew. The crew has seen several grizzlies along with black bears this year. A while back I posted one of a mom a cub running away. It appeared to have been taken from inside a vehicle. The mountainous part of the road is still closed to cars but open to cyclists. The bears love it. Last time I rode it (2017) it was not open when I started up. Saw lots of piles of scat in the road in various states of decay, including one that was very fresh. Unfortunately, maybe an hour after I went beyond the car closure point, the road opened to vehicles.

Uncommon event last year while the road was still closed to cars:

bampilot06 06-27-20 02:20 PM

when I was flying bush up in Alaska there was a bunch of black bears on this persons front porch. Using my plane I encouraged them to run away.

As of yesterday we are inundated with the annual tabano infestation. Tabanos are somewhat smaller than horseflies, and green. They bite before you know they are there. Not pleasant. They are the reason we finally screened the open half of the roof, a summer or two ago. They'll be around for four to six weeks. There are clouds of them out there today.
