In high school we had the most treacherous (and hilly) course in the state by far. Practice was a sequence of almost-rolled ankles and rapid steps to avoid them as the ground shifted under you. As teenagers we did fine, but no chance I'd do it now.

Yup, it led to a huge home course advantage. I went back for a few alumni/alumnae races and was dumbfounded at what we used to do, and on regular road racing shoes. They still have Tiger Jayhawks?

Indeed. Riding a tandem attracts quite a bit of attention on its own, add in being scantily clothed and you get IRL kudos aplenty.

I once was on a flight leaving NY and heading to Maine while hurricane Bob was still off North Carolina, and that plane did everything but flip completely upside down, though it tried. Fortunately I was in a super reliable prop DC-3.

Just saying, at best tomorrow’s flight is likely to be a very rough ride.

We've arrived in VA. I don't think that the lawn had been mowed since we were last in VA.

Also, there's a tree, an honest-to-god, 12' tall tree, that has spring up from one of the bushes. Oy.

Haven't posted a wine pic lately. This one is a bargain I found. Can't get Napa Valley Cabinet Sauvignon without spending some $$.

First hike today from Mountain Village to Alta Lakes. About an 1800' elevation change from our start to destination. 7.5 miles traveled round trip. The old man in the group required some rest stops due to altitude. Had rain, hail and sun. Exhaustion factor is high right now.

Climbs were steep enough on the way out that the mountain bikers we saw were walking their bikes up. Would have been a fun ride back down.

Fun day, and gorgeous country.
