Those are fantastic for storing dismantled watch movements. The 4 compartments are really handy for separating things like the keyless works from the train and the balance.

When Dodge came out with the Challenger Demon, I remember seeing one comment on the Challenger forum asking why Dodge would offend so many people with such a name. Imagine going through life, constantly looking for things to be outraged about.

My elementary school was the Demons for my first few years, then that got panicked away and was replaced by the Patriots. Not like the ****** football team though; no, we went with the not-at-all-topical Patriot missile because it was Desert Shield.

My high school was the Demons, and people complained every year, hung up flyers and all that, but the remain the Demons to this day.

LOL at Patriot missile! Good thing they didn't go with the Tomahawk missile, they would've shut that down by now. :)

Hmm the Ducks aren't playing in AZ this year. Maybe I'll go see 'em in SLC again.

Did the school colors change to desert camo?

Okay, that's better - showered and cooled down.

Got in a good ride this morning (followed by yard work - yay). I've been wanting to barnstorm a few segments in town, but I'm still a little fatigued and wasn't feeling the necessary 5min power, so I decided on a flat metric, instead.

About 15 miles in, I noticed that I was sightly ahead of a 20mph pace, so I decided to try and keep it going, 5 mile blocks at a time. Ended up finishing in 3:03, good for a 20.5 average (for the elapsed time sticklers, a 5 minute convenience store stop, 2 minutes of which was waiting for the chatty clerk to ring up the person in front of me, brought me down to 19.9... but I'm not an elapsed time stickler :p).

I've mentioned interest in doing a solo, sub-5hr century, but I think I'll need to work a little more before that's feasible; I think that I could have maintained my pace for another 10 miles or so, but I would have started slipping after that. Oh well, it's good to have something to work towards, even if it's dumb.

That was a very hot and humid ride. I pushed it a bit and felt some nausea which is my “tell” for overheating. I dropped it back a notch and sat in, which worked out much better than taking hard pulls.

So stupidly humid in VA, too. On the ride, I was musing that VA has probably seen more water via dew than MN has via rain (it's been a very dry year).

After adjusting the Lotus Classique, and raving about it the other day, I decided to give it another go on my TT route. The last time I tried it, it barely managed an average speed of 17.4mph. Slowest bike in the stable. Last night, it was 17.9 mph, which makes it...not the slowest bike in the stable! And that was with a disadvantageous wind, which seemed to be in my face at one point where I was a good 2-3 mph faster on Sunday.

This leaves the Circuit as the slowest of the bunch, so tomorrow it gets another chance.

This was an after work ride, so I got dressed for riding at work, carefully filling my bottle from the cold, filtered water tap in the break room and making sure the valve was shut so I didn't spill water all over my street clothes. Then I left the bottle sitting on my desk, which I discovered when I got to my starting point and couldn't find it. The person who said you don't need to drink, if you're riding less than two hours is invited to take a long walk off a short pier. Definitely hocking up rubber cement. Eeww.

If your chain isn't at least a link longer than the shortest it absolutely has to be, yes.

Chances are somewhat decent that it's long enough already.

Put it in the big/big, then push the bottom of the derailleur cage forward to see if the lower pivot of the rear derailer still had a little room to rotate forward. The more room it has before the stop, the better the chances everything will be just fine with existing chain.

My method is to put the chain around the biggest cog and the biggest ring without going through the deraileur, then add an inch. This will generally allow you to actually shift into big/big, but it's noisy as hell so you know you shouldn't have.

This is essentially the Shimano method, which is: big, big +2 links

Lordy. I remember some August days in South Central PA. Yuck. Wake up feeling grubby, just from the humidity. Take a shower to feel clean. Get out of the shower, try to dry off, and immediately your hands feel grubby again. Then, in the late afternoon, a thunderstorm would move through, providing about 20 minutes of relief - and entertainment. 10 minutes later, the humidity is even worse.

Yep. It's what I just used on the Classique, which means if I put the 13-32 back on it my chain will be too short. But I think I'll stick with the 13-26, even though it makes some hills on my longer routes a bit of a chore.

Bah Humbug 08-25-21 11:45 AM

Man I wish we could still get 12-up and 13-up cassettes.

This reminds me that I want to add a few more links with the next batch of chains. I think that I have an 11-28 laying around, and there are some days where I'd like the extra 3 teeth (12-25 is what I normally run and my current chains have me committed to it).

You mentioned it in another thread, but remind me of what group you're running now?
