A guy down the street in the neighborhood I moved into a few months ago has a Grand National that I sometimes see while I'm walking the dogs. I have not yet found a good excuse to make friends with him with the sole intent of him letting me drive it some day. Playing the long game. I love me an inconspicuous beast.

Every so often, I briefly fantasize about owning a classic American land yacht. I'm really drawn to the extreme designs from around the time I was born in 1957 - all fins and chrome and exuberance! Something like the 1957 - 1963 Imperials, or Lincolns from before 1961. Ever seen "North By Northwest"? That ginormous white convertible Eva Marie Saint drives when they're in South Dakota, for example.

But then I think, "Where would I put it? Where would I drive it?" and remember those monsters got single digit mpg and had crappy handling and brakes, and getting parts would be expensive and not only would it take a huge space just to park it, but also it would require the same space again to work on it.

So instead, I just watch "Jay Leno's Garage".

Just a nostalgic interest. My grandparents had a GM car of that year, or close. It wasn't as roomy/luxurious, nor did it have the beautiful "wood" paneling, though. Fancy.

It did have A/C. Very modern compared to our Sharpsville car with no A/C.

You think THAT'S bad? Here's an Elgin Railroad pocket watch from ~1965 (though that dial design goes back to the late 19th Century). This would have been a working watch for a railroader who needed to know the exact time. These were sold as safer, presumably because you don't have to think about what minute it is. Most railroad watches before maybe 1930 or so had a minute chapter with 5-60 numerals at the 5 minute marks.

Our HOA's management company is all up in arms because we are repainting the exterior of our house without HOA approval first. Irony is that we are repainting it the same color. SMH

A 1983 VIN Y Buford is one of the things nightmares are made of. Getting the air cleaner off that thing would be the limit of your mechanical ability, and getting it back on would cost you money.

Some of them had a 1.5L turbo engine. My friend had a Mazda with the same engine and we carpooled in it when it snowed in the mountains. It was a 5 speed, AWD, and had a centerlock differential. A really cool car for the snow. How about those Phoenix Suns?
