Breaking there is a normal effect of the design. It seems that datlas is experiencing a higher than normal failure rate.

Correct. It's not clear that reducing the friction in the system downstream from the shifter would improve cable life, but that's possible.

We had a fantastic "recovery" ride today. I know it's not really a recovery ride, but moderate pace, think Z2/3 for most of us. It's a fun social ride and ideal for those who rode hard on Saturday.

We also lucked out on the weekend weather, although a bit warm the humidity is low so the body's natural cooling system (sweat) actually works!

Whatever, they can't all be winners.

My MTB shoes came with these. Better than regular laces but I still like BOA better.

Same route but a little slower. More critically, higher HR, lower cadence. However, it was also hotter and sunnier. Tomorrow a shorter one and then see if I can go three in a row.

Friction anywhere is going to create stress at a bend point. Wire always breaks at a bend point. It’s very unlikely to break in the middle of a straight run unless you simply exceed its breaking point.

My wife clicked the “buy” button for my big 65 birthday present. It’ll be interesting to see if she makes me wait two months to play with it.

There are a few trail running shoes like that too - Salomon, I think. Nothing for road though.

I like boas for cycling shoes, yes. Going to get some Lake MX177s for the trainer so the pedals can be backups for AG. Then there are the Nike Kukinis that I drooled over in HS but was too heavy for, and now are hardly ever available in the US:

You can get a dozen of these from Lord Bezos for 3 bucks and stick it to the man at big tri.

Are you not the master of your own domain?

indyfabz 07-31-22 11:33 AM

30 miles. Mostly flat. I’ve really let myself go.

I do. Bike related, and I’m excited.

When my wife and I are riding tandem a lot, we rarely talk and seem to be able to read each other’s minds, like when to push or when to sprint or when to coast. We don’t ride enough anymore to seem to be able to reach that symbiotic relationship. Because we are having some organized tandem rides this summer, we’ve been trying to get a ride in weekly over varied terrain.

Yesterday, we were supposed to do a 50-60 miler with 9 other tandems but I woke up sick so we got a late start and only rode 36 miles. Today, we found tandem nirvana. Smooth as silk with little communication except telepathically. Effortlessly pedaling over rollers and did two sprints against other tandems at 37 and 36 mph respectively. Got 50 great miles in on a gorgeous Indiana day in Amish country. Even dodging road apples was great. :thumb:

Well....? Are you gonna spill the beans, or is this twenty questions??

datlas 07-31-22 12:51 PM

I was talking about my broken cable curse on today's ride, and one my my friends told me I should just get what he has.

He has a bike with SRAM eTap, and yes it is caliper brake supported. I suppose I could do this, but it seems effing stupid to pay three thousand dollars and get a bunch of battery headaches to solve my fairly simple problem.

:notamused: again

But I would still have to bend over, albeit more briefer than tying requires.
