Back in 1980-81, I rode around North America, riding from Ottawa, Canada to Florida, then to Tijuana Mexico, then up the coast to Vancouver before crossing Canada back to Ottawa. During the ride, I collected a shop sticker/decal from every shop I went into along the way. I got home and the bike was pretty well covered with shop stickers/decals... I later lent the bike to a friend, from whom it was stolen, along with all those shop stickers/decals.

It's interesting to see which bike shops are still in business. Montgomery Cyclery is still very much in business, although they no longer sell Schwinns. From the looks of the sticker, it looks like they formerly had a location in Clifton, which I guess is no longer open. They now have 5 locations around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky though.

Sticker on my 65 Phillips...it was just serviced here though. Bought in Belgium...

I have one more from East Hempstead, Long Island...bike and mower shop. I'll take a picture of it and post later this weekend. On my past bikes, I have seen a sticker from "Bobs" in CT somewhere, as well as a couple of local shops that are still kicking.

This is a cool thread. I was surprised to see two stickers from shops that I have bikes originally from - George Garner Cyclery (which was featured in the Schwinn book - Hand Free) and TR Drigget.

Here are two from my collection. The first is on my '72 Sports Tourer from my hometown Schwinn shop. I spent a lot of time in there when I was 12-15 looking at their great displays of BMX parts. It is still there and going strong...

Now I can find a Bicycle Emporium II in Lincoln Park, which is about 5.5 miles away from Totowa, but nothing on the one that's supposed to be in Totowa itself.

I haven't been to the Lincoln Park shop yet.

From my friends mid-80's? Schwinn Prelude with Columbus Tenax...very nice bike!

I went to my parents house with the intention of getting a shot of my "Hub City Cycles" (Hagerstown, MD) sticker from my old Schwinn Astro BMX bike, but it is no longer in the family. The bike was from at least 88, and I know they're still in business because I was there two weeks ago.

I was surprised to find only 2 of my present bikes have shop stickers:

86 Miyata Seven Ten from Shaw's Light Weight Cycles of Santa Clara, CA and 70's Motobecane Grand Jubile from Jones Bike of Long Beach, CA. The Jones sticker is mostly gone but you can still recognize the logo. They are still in business & using the same logo on their website
http://jonesbicycles.com/

I found the Miyata in San Diego and the Grand Jubile in Chicago, these bikes do get around.

My that has traveled. Bow Street in Harvard Sq is a high rent district
now. There is a shop named the Bicycle Exchange outside Porter Sq just
over a mile away. I assume it is the same shop.

What was Flint Indian Sales….?

Seems Herb Kunze, was a quiet man who operated the Flint dealership, which had been in operation since 1928, having been started by Herb’s father, “Speed” Kunze. Herb took over in the late 1960s.

When Indian Motorcycles went out of business in 1953, the shop turned to selling Norton, Matchless, Zundapp, Penton, etc, but Kunze chose to keep the name Flint Indian Sales.

After buying Flint Indian from his father, he bought the entire building next door to sell Schwinn bicycles.

Found on an Motobecane Super Mirage. There is now a Schwinn dealer at this address.

This is Pedal Power in Woodstock, Ontario. I bought both the Nishikis in my sig there, plus a lady's Miata 310, a Norco girl's bike for my daughter when she was little and a bike for my son when he was older. Pedal Power has been around since 1973, moved a couple of times and changed ownership once. It's the only dedicated bike shop in town (although it has added snowboards and skateboards to their product line in recent years.

Found this one on my friend's 1976 Super Le Tour 12.2 that he bought new.

Cool to know, thanks for sharing :)

I removed all the dealer stickers from my bikes, and cars. The way I see it, if you want to advertise your business on my property, I gots to get paid.

Back in the day when car dealers rivetted those chrome emblems on the trunk lid, I told them to leave it off or keep the car. Of course today they would add value to a 1960s muscle car. Beats me how today the kids pay extra to advertise big brand name clothing and running shoes.

Here's one that was on a bike a friend pulled out of the Plymouth, MA, dump. Amazing how these things travel.

It's interesting to see how some stickers are small and discrete like the Alfred E. Bike sticker, and others seem to be almost like billboards. I'm wishing I'd snaped a few pics of shop stickers of bikes over the years.
