Steve,

That Mininger sticker is from an old bike shop in my home town of Souderton. I believe that he went out of business some time ago and sold his remaining stock to Scooter's bike shop on Main St.

Wow! Small world!

Do you live in the area?

This was my Schwinn dealer growing up (they dropped the Schwinn line in the '90s). They have been in business since 1919. The owner I knew best was there from 1947 to 1993 (he's still around and we visit every once in awhile). The decals are silver foil, but look black in the scan:

From my '67 Varsity. Another BF member recently reported this was his local shop growing up. They're still in business, apparently(!) - dropped the mowers, though.. :(

Zumwalt is still in business, but is now located on El Cajon Blvd in SD. I was in there a few months ago.

It is interesting how far bikes travel. I had a Trek 720 that was originally sold in a bike shop from Virginia, and I sold it on eBay a few months back to someone in Virginia less than 10 miles from there.

The only logo I would be concerning myself with in Kalamazoo is the one in under your name! Larry recently made a triumphant return to Chicago and I have been in heaven ever since.

That was some kind of affair. Glad to hear the issues have been settled.

From the "Dump Find" Schwinn Super Sport. How did it arrive in NH? And I gave it to a fellow in Indiana.

Back in 1980-81, I rode around North America, riding from Ottawa, Canada to Florida, then to Tijuana Mexico, then up the coast to Vancouver before crossing Canada back to Ottawa. During the ride, I collected a shop sticker/decal from every shop I went into along the way. I got home and the bike was pretty well covered with shop stickers/decals... I later lent the bike to a friend, from whom it was stolen, along with all those shop stickers/decals.

It's interesting to see which bike shops are still in business. Montgomery Cyclery is still very much in business, although they no longer sell Schwinns. From the looks of the sticker, it looks like they formerly had a location in Clifton, which I guess is no longer open. They now have 5 locations around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky though.

Sticker on my 65 Phillips...it was just serviced here though. Bought in Belgium...

I have one more from East Hempstead, Long Island...bike and mower shop. I'll take a picture of it and post later this weekend. On my past bikes, I have seen a sticker from "Bobs" in CT somewhere, as well as a couple of local shops that are still kicking.

jungwiar 08-16-08 03:44 PM

This is a cool thread. I was surprised to see two stickers from shops that I have bikes originally from - George Garner Cyclery (which was featured in the Schwinn book - Hand Free) and TR Drigget.

Here are two from my collection. The first is on my '72 Sports Tourer from my hometown Schwinn shop. I spent a lot of time in there when I was 12-15 looking at their great displays of BMX parts. It is still there and going strong...
