Where to buy Dahon online in Europe?
Hey guys,
I'm in an EU country and try as I might, I can't find a Dahon Speed D8. I'm only interested in that model. Since I know that's the one I want for sure (I've had it before) then ordering it online makes sense. And if it's within the EU I won't pay duty. I can't seem to find any place except acycles.co.uk which has so-so reviews on this forum. Anybody else know anywhere? If I can't find the bike online, I'm thinking about a cheap Ryan air flight to somewhere that has one -- but that's last resort! Thank you |

Thanks guys, I've already heard back from CH White -- they don't have the bike but a potential custom job based around the same model. That's quick turnaround!

I ordered from C.H. White with delivery to Europe. There was some problem with them in that they refused my CC payment and I had to make a transfer. Aside from that all went fine.

I'm trying to find a Dahon Speed D8 at the moment and they are very very hard to come by here. There are only a few leads, things like ebay, or dodgier companies where the price is just jacked.

If I order from them it's an extra $350 for shipping, and then once it gets here I'll have to pay the import duty.

In my memory this was Romania.

Yup, Romania. I've emailed every bike store in every major city. No D8.

Dahon is not very popular over here, that may be the reason. They brought themselves pretty much out of the business through dodgy specifications, a unreliable model range and lack (or better absence ) of service, support and spare parts. Most dealers switched over to Tern as a consequence, at least that's my impression. Which country are you in? shipping over boarders can be expensive, even within Europe.
I've been looking at the Tern models but don't see anything steel. It looks like it's just Bromptons and the D8. |
This rings a familiar bell. I was trying to get a decent steel bike in Poland for a family member while there and it was next to impossible - I gave up. When next opportunity came around I bought an old Trek in the US and took it along. Interestingly after a week there we passed by someone with a steel Trek of similar age that must have had a similar history.
I suspect that difficulty of finding decent steel bikes there is tied to the history. The cycling, particularly in urban areas, became widely popular relatively recently when alu bikes got to be common and steel bikes became associated with truly junky ones from the past. Interesting that you can find Bromptons. A couple of dealers I visited in Poland later pulled out as the brand seemed to be overly expensive for the market. |

Thank you for that. I did ask and bizarrely they won't ship to Romania. They'll ship to Bulgaria...but not Romania. I asked them why and they didn't respond.

I`ve had the same problems with Germans. They ship where they want to ship... :D

So I'll just end this thread by saying that in the end I did find the steel Dahons, but they took forever to sort out. They really aren't that popular in Europe. If you get your hands on one...keep it!

So I hope it's ok that I hijack this thread.
Most of the shops above are from uk - after brexit that's no good option any more. I looked into: ks-bikes.de fahrrahd-xxl.de deporvillage.de mcbike24.de bikepro.de I also checked the above mentioned hollandbikeshop (they have 2 dahons) do you have any other suggestions? I find it difficult to find shops that sell to Germany or Austria but are from somewhere else in EU. Thanks in advance. |

They don't stock Dahon, but Box Bikes in Berlin sell Brompton, Tyrell, and Birdies. https://www.boxbike.com/ |
