Up for grabs is an impeccably preserved survivor. I was lucky enough to already start with an incredibly nice frame, abuse-free and not needing excessive cleaning. But, I still gladly gave it that. As I do with every refresh or restoration, I brought it down to the bare frame and built back up, piece by piece, with new elements throughout (grease, oil, housing, cables, hoods, saddle, tires and bar tape).

This was my first experience with SunTour Superbe Pro components (finally!) and they are everything I thought they would be. Beautiful, graceful yet built for serious riding. Even the Dia-Compe AGC's mate well with the Superbe group sporting their deep, milky anodizing and edgy looks.

This one came out just about flawless. Super clean, brilliant luster in the metallic paint and the chrome is just exceptional all around.

It's not a New Old Stock bicycle, but it’s about as close as you can get.

The sizing measures out at 60cm (C-T) at the seat post and a 57cm (C-C) at the top tube.

I'm really glad (or not?) that this one is too big for me, Josh. The 1985 model I told you about in my size that I purchased from eBay ended up not working out: the seller never shipped it, ended all communication with me, and I finally had to get eBay to step in to get my money back. I could tell when I picked up the Portage that this one was going to clean up beautifully.

Good luck with the sale!

Impressive bike and writeup in the link.
Somebody will be a pleased buyer.

Sorry to hear about the Raleigh no working out, johnnyace. I can't tell you how many deals I've had fall apart too. I've started to get to the point where I don't even get excited about a potential bike purchase until it is paid for and physically in hand.
Either way, the facilitation of the Portage allowed me to get to know another local C&V'er, which is great! I hope to see you around... maybe a ride this summer?

I hear ya. On the flip side of that are the transactions that go absolutely flawlessly, like the Ritchey Break Away that I just purchased from the original owner in Utah. Bought the bike on Dec. 6th, and it was delivered to my door on Dec. 9th. The seller even sent me a pic of himself on the bike on the first big ride he did on it, which was Mont Ventoux in France. Pretty cool, and the bike is in great shape.

Absolutely, let's get together this summer for a ride. Plenty of great riding in our parts! :thumb:

That monster even looks fast standing still, @johnnyace! Gorgeous machine and excellent color.
Let's stay in touch and plan for some rides. By then, maybe the supply chain will have caught up and I'll have my Kuat so I can haul a bike or two around.

If not, I've got both roof and hitch racks, enough to carry six bikes.

It's time to get this one back out there and with an updated price and opening it up to shipping.

Nice. Can you post the selling price when it does sell?
I’ve got $650 on a near-mint Competition and it’s generating zero interest other than “pretty bike.”
