I took it ez on the group ride today. I'm tired from the weekend's road race and Sunday's hard ride. Had a chance to look at the data from Saturday's RR, average HR for an hour was 170 (168 for 90 minutes). I normally have a pretty high heart rate but the elevation (7500 ft) definitely played a role. At one point in the race my HR and watts were the same number lol.

Today I learned that ozone smells very much like chlorine. Fortunately the smell went away as soon as I hit the hinterlands, but man is that some weird stuff.

Just did a 15min FTP test (it was supposed to be 20min but my kickr wasn't behaving properly and was making me go harder than I wanted). I held 256w for 15min. So I figure that's about a 235w FTP.

This may be blasphemy: I thoroughly enjoyed my hotel Lifecycle GX rides Friday-Sunday while I was at a conference. I did a short ride, 15 miles or so, on Monday, and then rode 49 miles today at sub-tempo to make sure I didn't over heat the engine in the heavy/humid air. The high temps were no big whoop. My technique is still getting better and that is translating into greater speed and endurance. It was cool to see that the top 12 is listed for Aug. 9 Wells Ave :-)

Good thing the season is this close to being over. I think I can hang on until Henleyville. I finally understand why people need an offseason!

Henleyville seems soooo faaaar away. I'd like to hold on that long, but not sure I can. I haven't even raced that much this year either (maybe 30 total??).

TT bike today. Chasing TSS into the sunset.

Har har. People do use 8min tests for FTP, where they take 90%. We take 95% of 20min tests. So I took just under 92% for this.

Close enough for gubmint work!

furiousferret 08-18-15 06:04 PM

I don't even test anymore, just set it based on how well I do hitting my zones in training. Everything but an all out hour effort is guesswork anyway.

Yeah, part of why I did it was that I had a sense from training that my FTP went up.

and even then it may not be a completely accurate test value due to a number of reasons.

Whats most important is that your Test Method is consistent - that's when the number you get becomes useful. Let's not forget about that "F" in FTP.

I just go with whatever strava tells me.... and it aint pretty. (my FTP)

Just came down from altitude.

Holy crap. The power. It's so easy now. I feel like a Super Saiyan.

furiousferret 08-18-15 09:02 PM

So yeah, Tuesday Worlds was fast tonight, everyone just went all out. Settled into a group and picked some riders off, was pulling about 10 dudes up feeling great at well over my normal pace....and my calf locked up. I would have been mad but it was an outstanding effort while it lasted.

My calf locks up way too much, I need to work on my hydration and other stuff cus I get them every hammerfest when its over 90.

I'd be interested to hear how long it feels like it takes for your body to reacclimate to a lower altitude.

Another 3.5-4hrs, JRA

TMonk 08-19-15 08:22 AM

Even though I'm in total JRA mode (no prescribed intervals/training) I ended up putting in an 11hr week last week (a lot for me), with rides both days on the weekend! I never do that. Now I have a -30tsb.

In the spirit of total laziness, I have decided to sleep in an surf the internet this morning, turning my 2hr ride into a 1hr ride :D.

Now that's more like it!

globecanvas 08-19-15 08:23 AM

Z4 day scheduled. One kid in bed with a fever. Another has #$!@# pinkeye. (which you don't get this way btw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYXLKRNCVrw, it's most often just rhinovirus aka the common cold)

Anyway no riding.

aaronmcd 08-19-15 08:48 AM

Overslept an hour and a half. Not even mad about it.

mike868y 08-19-15 09:39 AM

intervals. it's dumb hot out.

grolby 08-19-15 09:47 AM

Missed CX practice this morning. Maybe I'll do a threshold test later. Maybe I won't. Whatever.

TheKillerPenguin 08-19-15 09:58 AM

I hate you all for this, I'm thinking of picking up a head unit with GPS, because Strava.

Dammit.

I started taking magnesium supplements and it's really helped avoid cramping.

I'm going the other direction of less data. My quarq has been broken for like 2 weeks and it's actually kind of nice to ride without power. I still have time/distance/elevation though

Hit it hard for a couple 4' sections (one flat and one uphill), 320 and 350w, didn't feel too hard. My fitness is so up in the air right now, I'm not sure how strong I am really.

It will be about 1 month before I formally test FTP and get back on the horse for real.
