I just kept attacking, they'd stupidly drag everyone back to me, rest, attack again. By the end they misjudged it and I had a gap going into a 2-minute hill and stayed clear by 1/2 mile at the end. I was very ragey and annoyed, so it felt good to flog myself off the front for the final 15 minutes.

It hasn't snowed a single flake yet, but school is already cancelled tomorrow here in western VA. The road to my house looked like it was made of fine white gravel. That's how much salt they put down today. Mind blowing.

Very envious of everyone riding outside, with other people to boot. My class schedule has me missing the big race-pace group ride every Wednesday night this semester, which I'm not super pumped about. I need to do more hard race-like efforts to get into shape. I can do 5-10-20min efforts until I'm blue in the face, but there is no substitute for riding with other people.

Currently sitting in the airport on my way off to Spain. Worked out perfectly to dodge this Nor'easter. Might not actually snow that much in Beantown but It will be nice to ride in a place where the low is 50F vs. a high of 30F. Tomorrow is also going to be a wonderful rest day. This week had me just dying while doing tempo, a day of sitting on planes will be good for my legs, right?

Disappoint.

I was afraid I would be caught. :(

And my wife sewed a new waterproof pouch for my wallet and phone and the zipper is hard to use relative to the old one.

¡Buen viaje!

+10/-10 would make me a "domestic pro" in Andy Coggan's mind. I'd take it!

PS. my legs hurt. Yesterday was 40 minutes of Z4 @ 100+ rpm, today was 40 minutes of Z4 @ 80 rpm. 100 wiped me out but 80 makes legs hurt.

are you hanging out with kenny and sam?

dz_nuzz 01-21-16 07:07 PM

No. We are gonna be in Barcelona, and then near Valencia. I think they are going to Malaga.

aaronmcd 01-21-16 10:55 PM

2.5 hours on the way to work and another late workday meeting deadlines. Boss says take the day off tomorrow because I came in on Monday (holiday). But it's gonna rain tomorrow so I guess I'm getting wet!

mike868y 01-22-16 07:55 AM

easy hour today. gotta admit, the whole "try to ride every day for 100 days" thing is a big motivator. sounds silly, but it makes skipping easy rides a lot less appealing.

I can't recall if we are fb friends, but even so you may have missed it. I used the strava veloviewer and had 355 days with logged activity last year. I recall distinctly 8 of the 10 days I missed, 3 for work trip, 2 from a crash and 3 from an illness. When I was hurt and not riding I was logging walks - not exactly riding but still time committed to recovery and doing something.

hack 01-22-16 10:31 AM

that is impressive ... i think i took more than 10 days off in December alone

Enthalpic 01-22-16 10:41 AM

Well if you count walking I'm at like 36 years straight.

TMonk 01-22-16 10:49 AM

If logging an activity makes it training I'm buying a Fitbit. :)

I remember a conversation I had with a coach about what activities should go into a training log. He quickly responded "don't log vacuuming" with an irritated look on his face then recounted an athlete who filled their training log with household chores. At some point it's just called living.

This is the last week of Base 1, next is base rest week and my wife is convinced her ftp is higher than we think. I really don't know because all I have is a file from August showing she did 183w for the latter 20 mins of a 30 min TT and Golden Cheetah checking out all rides from last year agreeing. She'd never ridden a bike competitively before last year and didn't get dropped in a real race (happened in a training crit once when she moved from c->b). With a ftp that low her Z2 tops out at 133w and she's like "that's it?". Not even sweating. It seems like either I'm totally dead wrong or she's been riding tempo for like every.single.ride ever. Clearly we needed help last year. At least we have a plan now.

I'm making her do an indoor TT tonight. Right to not let her see power?

I log recovery rides so I figured setting aside an hour or 90 minutes dedicated to walking with no purpose other than to be moving and active recovery counted. It's not like I put in TSS or anything, it just goes to strava to show those who might care (new team) that I'm not quitting riding or anything just because Ex tried to maim me.

After another couple of months I expect you will have upgraded this historical event to vehicular manslaughter.

I fully understand that. I've logged 10min on the trainer at 50W after crashes, because it helps mentally.

I got a free TT fit out of it, so long-term it might be a winning transaction.

TheKillerPenguin 01-22-16 03:56 PM

It is the exact opposite of warm out.

revchuck 01-22-16 04:51 PM

Even here in south effing Louisiana, it'll be below freezing for tomorrow's ride. Nothing like what y'all are going through, but still pretty brisk.

TheKillerPenguin 01-22-16 04:57 PM

It looks like it's back into the 40's next week, so this is basically just a reminder that those of us in the north east are super lucky this winter.

spectastic 01-22-16 07:31 PM

Anybody had to exercise out in -19 f Temps? I'll be back home for a month visiting family. No bike.

Yea.

On the trainer, inside, like a sane person.

Wylde06 01-22-16 08:55 PM

2x13 (was only going to do 12...funny how you lose count on these things) 30/30 vo2, followed by 20 minutes of tempo. 30/30 sucks when its the first time doing it for the year.

Didnt feel like doing a steady state workout tonight. So I did this. Havent felt like puking on the bike in a while. The 20 minutes of tempo felt super easy after the 30/30s

6.7 hours in rain. Also super strong winds in the wrong direction out on Highway 1. And gusts that required me to have 2 to 3 feet to either side. Next time I should check the wind forecast!

102 miles, 10,000 feet. Had 3 bottles of Infinite on the ride (300 Cal each), a personal pizza, a scone, and a Starbucks Coffee beverage. Got home, drank a protein shake, ate a bowl of cereal, and ate 3 slices of toast while my wife made dinner. Still starving!
