But IRL >>>>>>> Zwift.

For whatever reason, as long as I have a movie or a Prime show going, I can do just fine on the trainer. Steady state is just fine/erg mode not needed. This weekend I watched old school.. The Patriot yesterday, and The Substitute the day before. :)

After a week on a sailboat in the Caribbean with a bunch of 60+ folks, I can tell you aging is not pretty. Very appropriate to wear shirts and coverups most of the time.

Especially if you spent a lot of time in the sun. I had a full beard from the age of 24 till I shaved it off at 50, which kept the lower part of my face remarkably youthful. If only I'd thought to wear hats more often as a ute.

I tried watching movies/TV, but it didn't help. I was frustrated that I couldn't really hear it all that well over the fans and the trainer.

I've done a few. Depending on the group, 60km in 2.8 hrs on a flat course is not so bad. Have not done a full 100 miles on the trainer - yet.

Yeah, it seems that "young" and "old" are moving targets based on your current age.

I wonder if they count shrinkage from evaporation because our snowfall depth is similar. It was around 12" last Wednesday and is now ~8.5".

Daytime high is going to be above freezing all this week (currently 40F). There will be shrinkage.

I did it on Saturday (maybe the last two Saturdays) with the aid of a Zwift group, music, and a podcast. Boy was I glad when that was over.

One man's cougar is another man's 'robbing the cradle'.

Speaking of which, if one is robbing the cradle, is the other robbing the grave?

That's why you need an ice cold garage.

"Old" is your age plus 20. "Young" is everything less than that.

What's sad is that we even have 0.01".

Velo Vol 02-07-22 03:09 PM

LAJ did you make the trip to nearby LA to see whatever this was?

True, but it's an even bigger deal with kids where one year matters. Even half a year. Recall this?

How old are you? I am six....and a HALF!!

Hey, it was kind of a big deal with my first girlfriend. As a November baby, I was one of the youngest in my class*, whereas she was one of the oldest. So she got her license MONTHS before I did. If I remember correctly, I barely managed to get my license in time to drive us to the Prom!

* My Mom was offered the option of holding me back a year, so I'd start First Grade at 6 instead of 5. She'd had kids at home for 17 years by that point, so she basically said, "Oh, HELL no!"

I don't recall that. Have a hard enough time remembering yesterday.

Apparently there's a big discussion on Twitter, kicked off by someone wondering whether you could make "Pulp Fiction" today, which of course led to people wondering about other movies, and other reasons why various movies "couldn't be made today". What that got me to thinking about was the Buster Keaton movies I'd been watching last week. Keaton was a visual gag GENIUS, and the movies he made, especially the shorts, were just amazing. And they were done without stuntmen, generally in single takes. So, even if you did them today, you wouldn't to them the same way and they wouldn't be as amazing.

Then there's "Casablanca". Years ago, a friend and I were discussing it, and he observed that a lot of the lines and themes in it would seem trite today, BECAUSE OF that movie. The same is true of some early Film Noir classics - they seem formulaic because they established the formula! You couldn't make "Double Indemnity" today, because "Double Indemnity" is so key to a whole genre.

It didn't mean much to me until about age 55. That's when I started to notice a difference in recovery time and sprint-type power. The last 2 or 3 years on the job were really hard on my cycling and I even stopped riding during the week when I was about 63-64. The workload increased and I put more pressure on myself than ever. I was so wiped out on Fridays I had to force myself to get out there. So glad I was able to retire.

I did that as a ute. I even do a variation of it now. Instead of saying I'm 67, I say I'll be 68 in a couple months.

Yeah, well I will be 65 in a few months. :(

I say whatever it says on my USAC license.

The office owner was on vacation last week. On Friday he got COVIDED and is unable to return.

His location? Texas.
