1988-1992 Ritchey Logic Mountain Bike
 

I'm selling this classic, and would really appreciate some feedback on value. Everything but the seat is original. I can't find a serial number, and I don't know the precise year this was purchased (it was my mom's bike). It's got some rust on it from getting some water on it in a part of my house that I didn't know was leaking. It needs a tune-up, for sure, along with new tubes and possibly a new chain. Happy to answer any questions (if I know the answers).

A couple dimensions:
Top tube (from center of head tube to center of seat tube) = 21".
Seat tube (from center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube) = 17"

FB has a really big Ritchey vintage page. I recently sold my Ritchey road bike posting on that site.

Right now I'm going to hold off on talking value. The reason being the Ritchey needs some detail. I would first clean with like windex, the next bump would be oil rub down over the whole bike. Most of the rust stain should clean by now, more may come off with wet car wax. I would wire brush the chain and cassette, most of what you see is dust on dry oil. The brakes and other dirt encrusted parts can be cleaned with a number of products, I would use auto tire and wheel cleaner.

You bike most likely needs service for the headset, wheels and bottom bracket. I would suggest that you visit a bike kitchen or co-op they have the tools and knowledge to send you in the right direction.

It would be good to understand what you have if selling. It looks like an Ultra, but all the the ones that I saw had black parts on them.

More than $500 if it cleans up well. Small size bike hurts it for selling. I am no expert though.

As pointed out hat’s more of a project than a useable bicycle. I wouldn’t pay more than $100 maybe $150 because it’s a Ritchey but it needs lots of elbow grease, cables, tires, probably a Chan and freewheel too.

Also it is real small bike with a hyper aggressive top line setup long stem looks to track past over the front axel which will make the bike nearly no ride for 95% of buyers unless they pay a tone of nice vintage parts then you only have maybe 15% of the somewhat slim vintage MTB market so while a great bike I think $500 is optimistic and would ask for $300 cleaned up a bit good chance in a major market some one will pay that much to get the nicer Ricjey branded parts which are pretty hot right now.

Ritchey's are always nice, this one would be a lot more desirable with the proprietary cranks and brakes.

As a Deore XT equipped Ritchey -- i think folks are pessimistic with their value guesstimates --- Rapidfire shifting if original points to at least 1990 though -- Bike definitely needs sorting out -- Truth , i wouldnt want to give over $350 or so for the bike in this condition due to the fact that it needs hours of cleanup , but if properly cleaned up and in restored ready to ride condition (Which most people won't want to ride it - its a museum piece now as modern mountain bikes have advanced so much) Its not crazy at all to expect $1200 or so ----

the market for legit early 90's boutique MTB's is there now and a Ritchey falls in that category. However - the big question is the time component plus money to bring it to the level of a $1200 bike. Rims, period correct tires, all cables and bearings replaced/ serviced , attending to the corrosion spots (which look mild but will still consume hours ) - Bike has the potential to have a lot of up side --- But will need some sweat equity put into it for sure

Ritchey = Sugino and Dia comp middle of the road stuff --- 1990 era Deore XT is very nice and in keeping with a performance build

The market for early fillet-brazed Ritchey's is always strong, the later mass-produced stuff not so much. I picked up a completely original 1990 Ascent, all 730 XT, excellent paint, original Megabite tires etc. for 300.00 Canadian.

Also at second look I would suggest the bar extensions should go off the bike it has bit over the top. top line verrry nice parts That you could sell easy $40 or so and actually get a bit more value for the bike pretty easy without much out of your pocket time.
