Seatpost clamp & seat tube mismatch issue?

Didn’t realize it at the time I was buying this Thomson clamp, but I just put it on and noticed the gap on the clamp where it tensions is offset from the gap in the seat tube. Is this an issue? Will it cause it to clamp lopsided?
i know all Thomson clamps are like this but this is a classic (2001) frame so I’m not sure if it’ll work or not?

I don’t think it will have any ill effect; the clamp will still squeeze the seat tube around the post. You could always rotate the clamp a little, I suppose.

Maybe the clamping bolt should be at the front of the seat tube
That's what I would do

I'd rotate the clamp slightly counter-clockwise, so the left edge of the clamp is resting on seat tube material--not edge-to-edge like it appears to be now.

Of course, you could always consult the manual:

Heh i know i looked at the directions when I bought it. But it's an aluminum frame and I'm putting in a Thomson Elite seatpost, which is also aluminum...

I'd imagine part of the offset is to either hide the bolt head, or give adequate threads.

I'd probably align the clamp with the slot, so turn clockwise slightly.

Do the instructions say anything about grease? Perhaps grease under the clamp so there is no drag between the clamp and the seat tube mast.

Then that would be "conventional."
