I believe that's a strangler fig or banyon. They drop roots down from their branches which eventually form into trunks far out from the main trunk. I haven't given them much thought because I grew up climbing them, but you're right - they are amazing.

It reminds me of all the Indian Banyans I saw during my recent honeymoon in Hawaii. They are really cool!

for me, it was mainly roadkill and broken glass

How do you know there wasnt?

Both the foot and "knee" cup (im not sure what that's actually called) were sticking out of the ground, but then again maybe the body was under it, the boise river is pretty good at killing people.

Most recently, an entire bike, apparently in fairly good condition. Unfortunately it's been hurled over a barbed wire fence onto a railway embankment.

Nice little story of a sweet commute find.

Forgot one. Not as good as 4 naked teenagers but...

A fly rod case with 2 complete never been used fly rod set ups in it. Roughly $600 to $800 of fly fishing equipment. A St Croix 6 wt (yawn) with reel, floating line and backing and a 2 wt G. Loomis custom with reel, line and backing. I still use the Loomis on small waters. It makes very little fish feel like whales;)

I suspect that my find was the end of someone's flyfishing dreams:o

Yeah I've had that too, along w/ the usual bikes, bike parts, roadkill, wildlife, livestock, passed out people, campsites occupied and abandoned (one of the abandoned ones turned out to have a dead guy in it) (the campsites are always there they're just more visible when the leaves are down).

I have never seen a fish. I did once find a giant carp on a green while trespassing (on foot) across a golf course. No such sighting on my bike commutes. That is more typical a little west of here:

Coins and cash found. Definitely not as good as 4 naked teenagers!

The wierdest thing I ever saw/found on a commute was a gentleman, who had fallen off the MUP I was on (los gatos creek trail), was all scratched up from the bushes, and ranting about people bailing on meets and asking me if I thought he was cute or too fat, pulling up his shirt to show his belly and a .38 tucked into his shorts What I gathered is that people will post meeting times and places for anonymous hookups and he was stood up. I continued my commute post haste.

Biking around the Silicon Valley last week I found 4 rats and 2 cats in different areas, alongside the gutter.

Gloves too.

My friend found a set of six expensive rings in a case a while back.

While on a recreational ride once, I spotted a large, complete bullet lying in the road. Didn't have time to pick it up and it was gone when I returned later. I wonder who picked it up?
The strangest thing I ever found on a commute was a young woman with substance abuse/mental health issues who tried to hijack my bike by sitting on the rack and demanding that I take her to the nearest police station.

wouldn't be the first stiff to turn up down there . . .

What a coincidence that you were the one to find them.
