It’s Sad
It’s sad when you see BTD has GP 5000 for 50.00 ea. and you think “ Wow that’s a good price”.

You must be getting the more expensive version of the GP 5000.
Bike Closet has several models of GP 5000 for just $45 USD. https://bikecloset.com/product-categ...ssories/tires/ But I guess if you round up, they aren't that much less. |
It’s been a while since I purchased GP’s @ $75 or better.Maybe it’s old stock/shelf life or even better yet the GP6000 is about to drop which is why everyone is getting rid of them.Who Knows for sure.Thank for the heads up.

The cheap ones I see here in the UK are in narrow sizes and older spec. 28-30C GP5000S TR are still reassuringly expensive. |

Now the big money is in the GP5000S TR tubeless tires. The 700x28 size goes for $80. Fewer people are buying tubed clinchers and more are buying tubeless nowadays. Similarly I think people are gradually moving up to 28mm and leaving behind the once universal 25mm tires.

IKR? I got a pair of Rene Herse tires for Christmas, but I'm afraid I'll wear them out if I put them on.
I do wonder how much of the change from $20-25 perfectly good tires to the current situation is inflation-based, and how much is corporate greed. |
Not just bike tires. Last trip for groceries made me sad. Used to be when you bought $50 worth of groceries, someone would bag it for you. Now they ask if you want it bagged or are eating it there!!

it's tiring to try & find good deals on reliable, supple, long use rubbers.

Perhaps a bargain for TL users:

I bought 2 28mm gp5k tires a month ago for $88 shipped to my door.
That seems quite reasonable, considering prices in the bike industry and in general over the last 3 years. I think if I had bought them a few years ago for $88, I would have viewed that cost as acceptable. |

You lost me at the apparent non sequitur. Are you saying only Continental ever made "perfectly good tires," and that GP5000 is their top flight? ISTM there's an awful lot of Continental models, and an awful lot of criteria for "best" for which the GP5k would not be best.

Try Pirelli then

Not the latest version, but under $80 tires and tubes. Conti 5000 is not my fave tire, but others squeal about them.
Continental GP5000 Folding Tyres With 2 Free Inner Tubes - Pair | Merlin Cycles In the same price range this would be my choice. Vittoria Corsa G2.0 Folding Tyres With 2 Free Inner Tubes - Pair | Merlin Cycles Rubino prices, anyone? $29. Vittoria Rubino Pro IV G2.0 Road Tire | ProBikeKit.com There seem to be fair prices if a person wants tubed tires. |

I use self-check out counters and bag them myself in reusable bags.
I bag them in GP5000s. |
