Frame number identification

Hi, thanks for the add, looking for help to aid in my identification woes of my frame, prefix SI840553, it has suntour dropout and looks 70's to 80's and the rear brake cable guides run along the top of the top tube, thanks in advance.

You can post photos in an album on your gallery and we can post them here for you.

Unfortunately, just a number is often not much use.

Broonyg 03-28-21 02:32 PM

Thanks, I'll try that.

Broonyg 03-28-21 02:37 PM

That's them up.

While the close-ups are nice, an overall photo would help.

The S/N format can be reverse engineered a couple of different ways. They would suggest 1988-1989 based on the presence of the pump. One possible brand is Schwinn.

It looks like somebody creased the drive side chain stay, while trying to spread the rear triangle.

Correct, I'm going to gingerly heat it and try to bring it back into line. More pics added.

Hello @Broonyg,

welcome to the forum and thank-you for posting pictures of your frame.

Based on the picture of the serial number the bicycle was not a Schwinn, for two reasons. Although the sequence of letters and numbers matches a particular Schwinn serial number format and location, the stamping into the bottom bracket is not the same as the Schwinn bicycles. Schwinn used this format until 1986 and I have not seen any Schwinn serial numbers of that format beyond 1986.

Your frame has been repainted. Based on your pictures and the serial number, your frame is a match for a Norco Monterey SL, possibly the 1989 model year.

The three main tubes are Ishiwata EX 4130 Chrome Moly Tubes. I have seen three different colour combinations for this model, but yours has been repainted. Originally equipped with Suntour Blaze components.

Edit: Norco also made the Fiori brand. Sometimes there was a Fiori version of other Norco models. So there is a possibility that this frame started as a Fiori. I think the Modena model.

Wow, wonderful information Hummer, thanks, gives me some more insight into colour schemes now, thanks.
