Tubeless Tire Characteristic

Flashback to 2021: Bought my first mountain bike. Did about a dozen rides and loved every minute. Though my wheels could accommodate tubed and tubeless tires, I went with tubeless. Liked everything they brought to the table for mountain biking.

Fast Forward to now: All biking came to a halt for a couple years for various reasons. Looking to get back at it. My tubeless tires won't hold air, but there are no punctures that I can find. Is this a characteristic of tubeless tires or the sealant after sitting too long?

The tires are Maxxis Reckon+, 60 tpi, 27.5x2.80, if that matters.

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Yes - you probably need new sealant.

Actually good tubeless wheels will hold air even without sealant.

How long will they hold air after pumping them up?

I assume your tires will hold air for at least 10 minutes or I would it be obvious where the leak is. pump your tires 10 psi over the max and spray your tires with soap and water. You might find a leak at valve stem, valve. or spokes ( rim tape gone bad )

99.999% chance your sealant is dried up.

If your bike has sat for a few years, your sealant has dried up. Add some more sealant. And it should seal whatever the leak is.

Best way to get it to seal is ride it to slosh the sealant around.

Assuming it holds enough air to ride around the block, do so. Then if it is holding air, go for a ride and bring a pump just in case you need to top off.
