Here is Waffle the greyhound. She loves to walk, but her very favoritest thing is to ride in the car. In this scene from a few years ago, we had packed up the car but had more things to do in the house, so she waited outside by the car FOR HOURS.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lT...w1600-h1195-no We got Waffle when she was nearly five years old. I looked her up on the greyhound racing site. Her father was from Australia. Waffle (the name my daughter gave her, not her race name) was a champion and got the rating AA. She won so much they gave her extra last chances before retiring her. She's now nearly 13 years old and not fast at all. She doesn't have much stamina for walking. Clearly her days are numbered, but she's still happy, so we're happy. Racing life must have been hard on her. She's reserved and not very affectionate and not playful at all. She likes people to pet her, but when they do, she looks away. She does enjoy life with soft pillows everywhere, as I presume her crate at the track was hard. She likes to be in the same room with us most of the time. She has barked only seven times in the eight years we have had her, and every time was at a dog, not a person. Bicycle content: on the roof of the car. |
thanks for sharing guys,
Jasper is 3.5 years old and already seems old, he can still go rides but we wait for him a lot. He was an energetic and playful pup but he is already acting like an old man. Winter is better because it's cold, but still it is amazing to see. We knew he would have rear hip problems when he gets old and already he is slowing, but doesn't appear to be in pain, just weak in the rump. He's 90lbs but not overweight. Olive is going on two and year is an axious dog who needs something to do and loves to run. Will chew anything left unattended in the yard so she still gets me angry now and again, but it's not her fault. She's a working breed and hanging out with Jasper in the back yard for 8-9 hours a day she is going to find something to do. All in all she is pretty good and she cannot be tired out. She'll ride and run as long as you can go and be ready to go again at the end. She's exactly half jasper's weight at 45lbs. She also wants to get in the car anytime we are leaving, not because she likes riding in the car but because she wants to go on whatever adventure she assumes we are going on. |
Jason, 6 years old and right at 100 pounds, is our third golden retriever. He's a love sponge.

Of the three we've had, he's by far the most affectionate. He loves people and other dogs, and there's never been the slightest hint of aggressive behavior. |

The two who belong to us are Lady Bird (the spotted mutt) and Bea Arthur (the pug in the wheelchair). The third little guy in a cone is Woody, whom we were fostering at the time. Bea lived to be nearly 16 before she passed away last year. We once took them to an acupressure course to help with Bea's legs, and Lady Bird was the practice doll for the class -- everyone laid their hands on her all day, and she made nary a peep.

Argus, a labradoodle who is 3/4 chocolate lab, hence the beard.

Sorry! Was about to say something really nice, when Fritz intervened. Previous post is his.

I remember Bea Arthur from the coffee klatch at Spike's Coffees and Teas. She was a sweetie.
Our friends once played dogsitter for us when they were visiting from Chicago. They wanted coffee, but had forgotten how to get to Spike's. They let Bea walk them wherever she wanted, and sure enough, she led them straight to Spike's. |
Jeep rides are always fun ! April the mixed breed cattle dog/Corgi , and Buttercup the Pekingese, who is seemingly both grumpy and happy at the same time

Tucker and Torpado, what's not to like. (He was after a bug, shutter speed a little slow...) Tucker is a rescue dog from Kentucky. Came with no training and semi crazy. We two spent a lot of time, working hard, and now he's a certified therapy dog. I see I should add some more details. His first 15 minutes in the house he had a 1/4 stick of butter, wrapper and all, off the counter and down his throat, was up on a couch, up on a bed, lunatic. He managed to get an innersole out of one of my good hiking boots. Didn't hurt the boot, good thing, but the innersole was done. He loves riding in a car, canoe, hiking, sailing, snow, running on the beach chasing birds, and playing with his girlfriend, who lives a few doors down the street. |

Eeyore Tiberius. Rescued at 5 weeks old from a moron that brought him in to my clinic on Good Friday about 8 years ago now. His ears were bigger than the rest of his body and he would always be tripping over them. Got a blood transfusion from his also rescued big sister Libby: http://i1172.photobucket.com/albums/...psgb7cthph.jpg And both have now, years later, turned into 60 pounds each of complete couch potatoes. |
