Cinelli has sold, again

Let the wringing of the hands begin.

Google translation of the article title and first paragraph.

Cinelli becomes stars and stripes. And it points to the fashion industry

After 100 years of history, Antonio Colombo sells the majority of the shares to the Texan entrepreneur Victor Luis, who wants to add to the historic brand clothing and accessories

altomaton 07-09-21 02:56 PM

Cinelli has been sold to a fashion manager. Maybe he is also a cycling enthusiast?

BFisher 07-09-21 03:09 PM

So, how long before I can get my hands on a sweet Cinelli cowboy hat?

Hard to say, but the Cinelli Longhorn Pickup Trucks will be out by the end of the year!!!

Dylansbob 07-09-21 03:43 PM

Interesting. It looks like the new owner has extensive background with high-end, luxury brands. I'm guessing the brand will continue in that direction, although it already kinda was trying to.

No mention on the bike line. I've had 2 modern, Taiwan-welded Cinellis that I've sold in the last 5yrs and both went way quicker than I expected. A Tipo Pista for $350 (paid $300 on Amazon) and a Hobootleg for $600 (bought as $199 frameset, also from the big A)

rando_couche 07-09-21 03:51 PM

Whatever, as long as the prices don't do what Silca's did when they changed owners.

Nike x Cinelli Air Jordan 1, coming soon.

I thought you were referring to your Cinelli. I was wishing I had known it was for sale.

I had already forgotten that I saw that posted somewhere this morning. ClassicRendezvous, maybe..

Not yet. Some day.

"I recognized in Victor Luis the perfect understanding of my vision of merging cycling with art, culture, design, technology and competition, combined with an undisputed and proven managerial and organizational ability." That's the big highlighted quote in the middle of the page.

Stuff like this makes the 63 year old cynical version of me laugh. As if what the buyer thinks of the seller's "vision" matters one little bit. And as if the seller has anything to do about what the buyer's ulitmate "vision" turns out to be. The Cinelli name on WalMart bicycle-shaped objects? Flying C logos on edible underwear? A string of "Cino's Cheap Eats"? All possible, albeit rather unlikely. The point is that the seller has f*** all to say about it once the money changes hands and the contracts are signed regardless of the lipstick-on-a-pig PR twaddle.

.
...I currently own two 80's SC's. Just repainted one of them a beautiful shade of Naples yellow, with a slight surface iridescence. So I am safe from whatever the rich Americans decide to do with the bikes. :) I've been riding the white one lately, just because I can.

Wikipedia identifies the company as "Tapestry", which it says is headquartered not in Texas but in NYC.

(I'd thought that all US companies of this size were headquartered in dodgy buildings in Delaware. I must have been misinformed.)

"A new beginning is coming soon..." Oh, wait, no -- that's Bob Jackson.

nlerner 07-10-21 06:44 AM

I think it’s just their bank accounts that are located in Delaware along with a PO Box.

I always laughed when I saw the big sailing yacht Kialoa III moored in Marina Del Rey.
home port, Wilmington Delaware.
But it did sail all over the world.

Cinelli sold again? When were they first sold?

First time, 1947 from Arrigo & Giotto to Cino.
Second time, 1978 from Cino to Antonio.
Now, from Antonio to Texas dude.

Wikipedia also says Luis left the company in September 2019

I sit corrected. That web page also relates his excitement about his then-new job:

"I am excited to join the Deckers Board of Directors. I have long admired itsportfolio of iconic brands that blend fashion and performance innovation to drive consumer connections. I look forward to supporting the management team in the execution of global strategies that build upon the success they have driven over the past few years", commented Mr. Luis.
This kind of flatus has a minor macabre fascination for me. I do wonder if anyone, anywhere, read this and thought: "Ah, so he's going to be supporting the execution of global strategies; delighted to hear it!"

Anyway, does all of this mean that there'll be "Cinelli" brand pedals optimized for uggs?

cudak888 07-10-21 09:22 PM

It's a race between Cinelli and Colnago to see who can be the first Ferrari copycat to offer branded aftershave and soap.

LOL. He probably plans on reinventing the wheel, too.
