Help confirming ID of a Trek
Just wanted a second opinion on my Trek ID. Reynolds 531, Campagnolo front and rear dropouts. #G3F8F14.

Caveat: I have one with a G4F8 (June '78) serial number, that I bought locally from the original owner. Campy dropouts.
And a dove stamp on the steerer. Some TX770's were indeed stamped as TX700s. Check your steerer carefully. Your 531 sticker probably sews it up, but still... One of these days I need to strip it down to bare frame and weigh it vs. my same-size '78 TX700 frame, using the same scale at the same time. Previous bare-frame measurement (no cups or head badge) of the TX700 frame was 1.97 lbs. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b7b60b4650.jpg |

That’s what I came up with, condition is so nice I wanted to double check. Thanks

That’s what was throwing me off.

The decal threw me off too when I first looked at it as I guessed an early 80s 700 series but the serial number is obviously more accurate than the seat post decals. This is my 1979 Trek 510. It is one of my favorite bikes. I'm running 700 x 35c tires which is likely the max it can take.

I just ordered the correct decals, I’m just hoping they weren’t hiding something under the bigger decal.

Enjoy that TX700! That's the geometry that built Trek.

Given the paint quality, seat tube panel and frame material labels, the OP's frame could be one that was repainted by Trek in the early '80s. The rear brake cable guide braze-ons are also of interest. Looking at bike in post # 4, it appears the '78s would have had clips. Maybe the original owner opted to have the guides brazed on in-service, and had the frame resprayed / rebadged at that time.
