Thursday 10/29/09... No
Friday 10/30/09... Today was a coulda, woulda, shoulda, ride. I coulda rode further, I shoulda rode further, and I woulda rode further if the rain clouds had not started to build in the east. The legs are starting to recover and the speed picked up some. I think it was the medication that I was on.
Back from a week long vacation. Practiced and trained for cyclo cross tonight. Warm up, dismount and mount drills, Zone 5 hill repeats followed by two x 20 minute race pace intervals. It was muddy and my bike and riding clothing both needed special attention once home.
I bet that was tough on Mrs. Jet as well.:D Did you ride across the bridge?

NealH was in town today for the metric ride Sat. so we headed up to the BRP in warm sunny conditions. We started our ride at 4600' for an 8.7 mile climb up to 6050' in the mid 60s but that began to change as we climbed higher. A front was moving in and the wind really picked up while clouds began to obscure the sun. We made it to the top in 49 min and promptly put on arm warmers and a vest for the descent back to the car. I had been in my summer kit!

Neal riding up the mostly empty BRP. The leaves at the higher elevations are gone!

I'm riding half naked at 6000' in late Oct. Awesome!
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...MG_2770new.jpg

I layered up for the ride back down though. The wind was making a sail out of my vest.

Fall colors at an overlook. One side was socked in with clouds and the other was sunny.

These clouds would begin to rain on us on the way down the hill.

We mostly beat the weather today for a quick afternoon climb on the BRP. Fun!

Fun!

Gret report WNC, reminds me of my ride in Shenandoah National Park a few weeks ago. This picture is pretty cool too, hope you were looking where you were going, I would probably wreck doing this!

No ride for me 10/30 I did the next best thing though......blew leaves! Yeah fall is great isn't it?
I blew leaves for two hours and looked at the trees and saw more leaves, looked like they were full of leaves, where the heck did all of these other leaves come from?

NealH and I started the Tour de Franklin in a moderate rain this morning. Temps were in the upper 50s. After the first loop of the figure eight metric course we rode into the barn soaking wet. The rain only got worse after that so I think we made the right decision to cut the ride short at 30 miles. Our ride time was just over 1:50 total and we had no stops which isn't too bad considering the conditions. I think there was about 2600' of climbing on the section we did.

wrafl 10-31-09 11:41 AM

Temp was 41 when I started my 23 mile ride this morning and 43 when I quit. Lots of leaves on the road since I rode mostly on side streets. Despite a full finger glove, my fingers were cold and numb from the low temp and wind thus hurrying to get back home after that short ride and barely getting over 200 for the month. I need to shop for an insulated cycling glove if I plan on riding when it's 20+ outside.

kr32 10-31-09 12:14 PM

Not only did I not ride today I only got in 8 holes of golf due to rain I was going to try and ride after golf but....oh well. Maybe tomorrow

10 Wheels 10-31-09 02:23 PM

Six riders today. Temps 47 to 72* Sunny Winds to 12 mph.
Chuck had his 12th flat in 1,000 miles.
Nice ride.
Pics: Enjoy, Roy did.

Saturday 10/31/09... Things are getting back to normal 30 miles today. The legs are starting to recover and the speed picked up some more. I think the B 12 shots and tablets are starting to kick in. I am glad this month is over as it was one of my lowest mileage months and lowest ride days per month and lowest average miles per ride. Looking forward to next month.

Glad to hear that you are getting back to normal. I know how you must have felt when you say that this month was your lowest, it was mine too but not for the same reasons. I only had 16 days and most all my totals were low as well.

I now have to go look up a Gopher tortoise and see what you are seeing.

I rode another solo century from home, the same route as last Saturday. I ended up with 101.5 miles, 7:15 overall time, and an on the bike average of 16.2 mph. It gave me 837 miles for October, my highest mileage month of the year.

Red Rider 10-31-09 05:01 PM

Cgallagh and I rode the tandem 32 mi. yesterday and 36 today. I have a new PR of 776+ miles (I rode Thursday w/o a computer and don't know if it was 10 or 15 miles, so I didn't count those miles) for the month. The riding's been fantastic!

Allegheny Jet 10-31-09 05:11 PM

45 minute cyclo cross race today. It was a muddy, muddy mess. I fell at least 4 times and stepped out many more. Took the clothes off in the garage and hosed them off before bringing them into the laundry room today. The wife is happy about that.:D

kenkayak 10-31-09 05:30 PM

In the area that I ride I see about 18 to 20 nests but only on the warmest of afternoons do I see many tortoises out. They like to set at the entrance of there burrow and sun them selves. Link below gives some good info.

Blue skys & 60* @ 6:30am when I left the house this morning. Rode 30 miles through ag land and along PCH. Beautiful way to start November.

Red Rider 11-01-09 12:36 PM

Out the door early for a 30-miler loop with some racers. They're starting base miles today after a month off and I was fine for an easy ride. We did some paceline practice for the sake of a couple newbies; it was a blast and gorgeous weather (again) for a ride.

BikeWNC 11-01-09 12:58 PM

NealH and I got out today for a short 29 mile ride just outside of town. It was a sunny beautiful day in the mid 50s this morning.

Still riding - a nice day today, low 50's. Got the leaves up off the yard and then went out for a 25 mile ride. Our foliage is just about all gone. The oak trees will release in another week or two and then it will be stick season...

NealH 11-01-09 05:45 PM

Those are good pictures BikeWNC, but in some ways they don't do justice to just how nice the ride was today. Both the Tuckaseegee and Caney Fork rivers seemed to be at full pond and trundling in high gear. It was perfect day for cycling and the route was equally as nice.
