2008 Giant Yukon weight
Hi everyone. I have a 2008 Giant Yukon stock that is about 35lbs. I know it's a entry level bike. Is there anything I can do to drop the weight a bit because its like riding an elephant with square wheels. I'm a casual rider on the trails but not crazy about the weight. Thanks!

Take it that this is the bike you have, http://www2.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb...llections_id=3 for saving weight, wheels, tires, forks, seatpost, saddle, handlebars in that sort of order, just about everything can be replaced, including the frame but you will find it get expensive very quickly, and if looking for a large weight saving, it can be cheaper to just buy a lighter bike.

What size is the bike, as 35lbs sounds heavy if it was a medium, but maybe so much if an XL. What tires are you running, as changing these to lighter ones would probably be the cheapest and most cost effective upgrade you can do.

Decide how much you want to spend on it, vs the cost of a lighter replacement.
Not sure where the weight is, but would not expect a Alu framed late 00's bike to weigh in at 35lbs with the kit you have listed. Rock Shox Darts are't excessively heavy, although replacing them with lighter ones will make a difference, the tires you have listed shouldn't be too heavy. From your description, it sounds more like a 2009 model rather than 2008, http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...e#.UisRYDZOPGA that's not entry level, but way above it, are you scales correct, have you fitted lots of accessories, replaced the stock saddle with a comfort one? as the weight just seem too high for the spec, would expect it to come in more at the 30lbs mark than 35. |

RockShox Dart 1 = about 5.5 lb
A better fork can be 2 lb lighter then your current fork. |
