Only 30 miles but I’m on antibiotics and muscle relaxers due to a botched root canal that left me with a bad case of lockjaw.....no fun working out while on meds but I took it pretty easy

Man, I fell in behind this kid (well he was probably early 20's) on some road bike that wouldn't impress the coffee shop folks, black tee, black jeans, black basketball shoes that were untied a bit. I don't ride on the wheel of strangers, but I was about 6 behind him, had to give him room on the very mild climbs, but on the flats he'd pull away consistently. His legs bowed out, jeans baggy and heavy, a mess.... But man, this kid was quick. I figured that I'd let him accordion back and forth in front of me.... he'd look back, stand on the pedals, make distance, and at the top of the next hill, I'd be on him. Just a steady pace. This went on for 6-ish miles. I figured he was gonna turn off, or get tired... nope. Slowly, he kept putting distance on me, until he probably got 1/4 mile ahead of me after probably 8-9 miles. I'm not saying I'm anything, but hey, I had proper cycling shorts, and shoes, and my bike is fitted to me, and I do ride 100-ish miles per week, more than most folks (less than many of you). Finally, as darkness fell, I made him out on the side of the road ahead, texting someone. He looked up, saw me, with a big grin on his face. I just smiled and gave him a thumbs up. Made my day, honestly. |

11miles today (11 hilly miles). Didn't push for more as I'm gradually getting in shape and unfortunately when restoring my high school bike, I managed to get a 1/2" wire from the brake cable
in my foot, right where my big toe meets my foot (sharp little suckers, don't trim cables in socks). A couple hours at a foot surgeon couldn't remove it in the office, I'm taking a look see attitude before signing for full blown surgery. Really have been absent serious riding for some time, so I'd be happy to get 50 miles in a week. Patrick |
64 miles to finish up a self contained trip from Pittsburgh to Philly. About 440 miles total over 9 days.

I rode the clock for a while, does that count?

Zero miles today. Took the day off from pedaling and did chores. I started the day on my school bus, went grocery shopping, did some laundry, cut the grass, pulled weeds including some always tough wire grass, finished some paperwork and made necessary phone calls. Before getting back on the school bus for the afternoon take home, I relaxed and read a bit. Back home I made a big salad for dinner with an assortment of greens, veggies, fruit, cold meat and cheese, homemade citrus honey mustard dressing. I am finishing that as I type. All in all, a pretty good day. I didn't so much as touch a bicycle.
