I have one of those. It sits on the trainer, where it belongs.

I've considered doing a metric on Zwift, but that's about as much time on the trainer as I'd be able to stomach.

Yep. Every so often, I drop down to a smaller cog and stand on the pedals for 10-20 seconds, just to give my ass a break. I think Zwift should give riders the option of a route with stop signs and traffic lights, like the real world, so you get out of the saddle, for starting up, etc. More of a "real world" experience.

Throw in a cafe stop.

I stand for a little while every 10-15 minutes. Also, pushing a big gear tends to be a bit better.

I wonder if they count shrinkage from evaporation because our snowfall depth is similar. It was around 12" last Wednesday and is now ~8.5".

I'm referring to the average for total snowfall for the entire winter. Seems they've switched from the historic average to the last 30 years average. Less snow than there used to be.

Seriously, I've talked to my wife about that. The espresso machine is only 20' away. :thumb:

I ride with trainer difficulty set to 100%, so I use the bike with the biggest gear range - the Canyon. Plus it won't rust from all the sweat. Also, I'm a lot more comfortable clamping on the thru-axle adapter than the QR.

I checked his profile. He even RUNS on Zwift.

BTW his 100 mile ride included AdZ, which he did in 57 minutes.

His response to my sister's "You guys should ride together" was that he was going to be in CA this summer. Of course, it's a big state.

Is his Zwift ID "Forrest Gump"?

Speaking of gears, I discovered something interesting the other week. I was doing one of the TdZ rides, and riding in a group of about 8 or so other riders, and I found myself most comfortable at a cadence in the high 80s. It seemed easier to do the occasional microsurges to keep up, in a bigger gear. And when I'd spin up to my usual road cadence of 95-105, my HR would go up about 5 bpm, but would drop back down if I went to a taller gear and slower cadence.

The TT bike on the trainer is my nemeses. I'm now going to give this thing a shot.

TT bike on a trainer sounds like unnecessary torture, unless you're using it to train yourself to ride in the TT position. I mean, it's not like the trainer cares how aero you are!

indyfabz 02-07-22 01:26 PM

I don't Zwift.

That's exactly why one would subject themselves to such a thing. If I can stay aero for 20 minutes on the trainer, I have found I'm good for more than double that in the wild.

I don't Zwift either since they started charging for it. I was one of the original beta testers and I think I got a free year when they eventually started charging but by then, I was out of the cartoon/video game training thing and just wanted to ride for fun. I see the appeal for group rides and I do miss that a little but I'm more into traveling the world and seeing the scenery, now.

Same. True on the road for me, too. My comfort/efficiency zone is in the 80s. On Zwift, I will sometimes do a flat ride (Tempus Fugit) pushing a 53x11 at 50-ish rpm for 30-60 minutes. Especially since I'm spending a fair amount of my real-world riding on my singlespeed MTB, brute force fitness is helpful.

Trsnrtr 02-07-22 01:41 PM

We're all built different and nothing is more personal than cadence.

OK, maybe saddles.

genejockey 02-07-22 01:44 PM

Funny thing is that on the road I naturally spin faster. I'll look down and see "105" on the head unit and I wasn't even thinking I was spinning that fast. On the trainer I'll look down and see "89" and I didn't think I was spinning that slowly!

genejockey 02-07-22 01:46 PM

I can't manage more than 40 minutes on a trainer without Zwift. And those 40 minutes are exhausting, because I have to CONCENTRATE to keep putting out power.

But IRL >>>>>>> Zwift.

I run right around 95 both on the trainer and on the road, I try to shift on the trainer when I go over 100 rpm but that's mainly because of driveline backlash. Road or trainer, I rarely ride in the 80s. If I do, it means that I've run out of low gears!

I never thought I would think of 47 as "young", but by gum, from my vantage point at 64, 47 looks like teenage.
