Yeah, I really don't have a burning upgrade-itis. I perfectly fine with the functionality and performance of R8000. Di2 would be nice, as would a clean cockpit, but those are very much non-essential, and I'd rather have something like a fat bike, which would meaningfully expand my riding possibilities, before addressing either.

Maybe R8000 will be my "it all went downhill after that..." in the future, as I shake my elderly fist at the whippersnappers on my lawn.

Their bread and butter is within Tri/TT, and don't have much name recognition outside of it. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's a great bike, but I also wouldn't be surprised if I were told that products outside of their niche were uninspiring.

Gotta say, much as I loved the 7400 STIs and RD on the Ritchey for lo those many years, the 7800 bits work at least as well and the STIs are more comfy for long miles on the hoods, not to mention on the hood tops. Keeps me from wanting to upgrade further.

Agree 100% on the comfort of the 7800 levers compared with earlier versions. 7900s were the same (or very similar) shape and comfort, but the 7800s shifting is better.

My description of it is "They shift like thought", meaning all you need to do is think, "I want to be in a higher gear" and you are. Often there's not even any sound of gear change, just the *click* of the shifter.

I love that. It all when out the window for me when I bought my latest bike, which is Campy-equipped. The shifting action is different enough from Shimano that I often end up pushing the wrong lever first.

I only know their tri bikes. Our shop was a dealer for a while. Their tri bikes are very nice, so I would expect good things from their aero road bikes.

While we’re talking old(er) rides, I broke out my Propel for today’s ride. Now I have a sore lower back which is odd considering I’d ridden it over 15,000 miles without pain until May when I bought my Colnago. Also, my sit-bones hurt.

It was a windy day, so I’m blaming my lower back on pulling ancient guys around in the headwind. :innocent:

Today’s project is unclogging the 3-way valve on my espresso machine. I think it might be time for an upgrade.
