Well, I guess I'd have to say kaleidoscopes. I'm currently sitting at 55 of them. Pretty much all found locally while antiquing.

A bunch are scattered all over this bookshelf.

Some of them.

One of my favorites. The image inside is amazing.

This one has multiple Kaleidoscopes making up the one piece.

Pellet rifles

I like to tinker with quality spring powered pellet rifles. Mostly German makes, and most also made prior to the mid 1980s. They are also a “machine”, and respond to tuning. The goal isn’t power, but smoothness. Quality wood and steel from a bygone era.

Music equipment, but it's not gear acquisition... just working on a music project and I have some specific sound needs to make it happen. Otherwise beer and bikes and investment.

Tools for working on vintage bikes. Because you can't count on the bike shops having them.

Yup, college tuition (one about to start her final semester, another to start as a first year next fall), books, travel to go bike touring.

I do have a nice guitar, but I don't really spend any money on it except for the occasional restringing.

as a Ron Cooper, Miata 912, and Sunbeam Alpine owner--what British sports cars do you have?

RiddleOfSteel 12-21-19 12:04 AM

Well, it will soon be some new-to-me vehicle. I've been idling the bike stuff for as long and as effectively as possible, waiting for the four-wheeled chariot of reasonable stats come to the fore. Like supercell thunderstorms, the 'offerings' online are cycling (ha!) and will produce new and different results. Otherwise, it's a continuation of tithing and mutual funds (investments in the future).

I repositioned my VERY RED '85 Allez SE to the left of me (drive side, naturally) so I can admire it while it continues to rain.

In spite of never having been a smoker, I collect vintage cigarette lighters and accoutrements. What i spend money on, however, is the house. Maybe it will be 'done' someday.

I have a Beeman R9 (.20 cal break barrel) from 1995 or so, I rarely pull it out, but it is nice to plink cans with.

I tinker with my car and van a fair bit. I have a 2003 Jetta wagon TDI that I bought new that is a really sweet car, I've kept it up quite well. And I have a 2003 Sprinter cargo van that I built out into a nice camper, but thats not quite done, probably never will be....

Mostly home improvement but my latest toys are a couple of vespa p200e scooters.
I love those old metal scoots with a 4 speed and a 2 stroke.

I'm also into vintage VW Buses

Since I've lost most of my hearing, I haven't bought a guitar in over ten years. I'm going to be spending a ton on a cochlear implant soon, if the CT I'm scheduled for says I can get one. Maybe I'll be able to hear well enough to play again.

Like Seeds, I have a woodworking habit, too. But most of the wood I use is other people's cast off I get for free. Except the tools; I buy an occasional tool.

Good luck with the CT, hope you get there. ;)

Tea...full leaf, organic, estate grown, hand processed tea. The result is bewitched water.

sloar 12-21-19 07:05 AM

I’ve spent a bunch of money on guitars lately. I’ve been very picky looking for a couple that I really liked. I finally found one for work and one for home. I’m good for now, only because lack of room at home. My oldest goes to college next year so I see a music room with more guitars in the future.

Paying daughters college tuition; she picks up the payments this summer after graduation. Other hobbies are firearms, amateur radio, photography and astronomy. Fortunately I’ve spent about all the money I’m going to on my non-bike activities. There does not seem to be an end in sight for cycling. I’m looking at a new wheel set this spring and a new road bike later in the year.

Right now, its my 1977 Trillium fiberglass trailer project. Outside is done, more work needed inside.

Then I need to get back to working on my dumpy duplex. One side done, other side nothing has been done. The bigger challenge is clearing out stuff, lots of stuff!!

Well, not spending enough on my Westy. Needs a good bit of new metal underneathth. And the funds arent there. I am in a quandry as to what to do. It runs, drives, stops. Has new set of tires. But the next step is replacing metal and maybe a new engine or rebuild. May be time to move it on.

There are a lot of cheap ways to prevent further rusting and keep the water and draft out of the inside. That's a nice looking westy. 77?
