Me neither. I don't have sweaty hands.

I do, however, have a sweaty head/face, so I get salty residue under all my top tubes.

This is called OBD 2 and the connector under the dash is called the data link connector. This connector allows access to the up to 30 computers on a communication link.

If checking a used car you can see any trouble codes which are set, even if warning lights are not on. If a car has a bad catalytic converter, for example, the seller can clear the light with a code reader and it won't come back on until the computer has failed it's test. A good code reader will tell you if the tests have been run, or not.

In California a car will fail a smog check if those tests have not run. This is a source of much frustration for technicians trying to get the tests (called monitors) to pass. It can be a giant PITA.[/QUOTE]
Yeah. We were on the verge of despair when Mrs. GeneJockey's Sienna wouldn't pass because ONE TEST kept showing as "Not Ready".

I remember. You were ready to replace the cat(s).

Yep. Thank goodness for a mechanic who took the time to explain the situation to us. Also thank goodness for whatever it was that finally got the test to run (or whatever), because that Drive Cycle protocol is just bonkers. We kept putting it off ("I was waiting for you to tell me when we were going to do it." "Yeah? I was waiting for YOU!") and then, when we FINALLY went to the car to do it, filled with dread that it wouldn't work, I checked the reader and it had cleared!

EDIT: Also, thanks to you for making me realize we should be more cautious about dropping the cash on the cats.

So close to coaxing the trailer onto that tiny bridge :)

I almost went with 6800 for the Litespeed, which would have required scavenging on Ebay for a while. Good to hear R8000 is better!

Agree. It took me some time to learn about the cable tension screw (make two white lines align) and the top cap that cable runs through is interesting but good once you thread it properly. If you have a braze on don’t forget about that inner plate thingy!

datlas 06-29-22 04:03 PM

BTW I fixed my inner limit screw on the FD so no more chain drop. But I am askeered one of the drops may have slightly bent one link, as I did have one chain suck episode. I may have to put on my reading glasses and take a closer look at each link and the little chainring teeth to see if one of them is bent a smidge.

6800 FD vs R8000 FD

not positive - ? -

Is there a slight difference in the crankset / chainring spacing - 6800 vs R8000 ?

And if yes - is there a difference in the FD design or operation ?
.

Both are 11 speed but the design and setup are different. I think the ramps on chainrings are same/similar but not positive.

One of my club mates has been riding a Ti Seven for many years. She was offered a great price on a gently used Emonda from another club member and is raving about how much better and faster the bike feels. I am suspecting the placebo effect is strong, but I am happy for her, regardless.

Why would it not have the bars I have?

I was told they were going away from the one piece design back in June last year.

That was the one piece Madone stem/bar I believe. The Madones and Emonda don’t share the same bars.

I think also that the Madone’s cables are run through the bars and into the head tube; whereas, the Emonda’s are routed under the bars.

Well that’s silly. They should have made them the same. I thought that was the whole point. Emonda/Madone.

Madone more aero.

Emonda lighter weight.

Not the same. Otherwise, you’d have to throw the Domane in there.

All use the same letters though.

Madone and Emonda share geometry though.

I'm surprised they haven't made an electric bike for bikepacking and called it the eNomad.
