When do you want to flat?

We all get flats, and it's never the right time, so...

Milton Keynes 08-05-21 07:23 PM

Um, never?

GlennR 08-05-21 07:23 PM

When i'm on my way home.

Preferably when you're 5 feet from your driveway.

Once got a flat 2 blocks from my house, I took my shoes off and walked. No sense wasting a CO2 when my pump was so close.

Also once has a leak a short distance form the LBS. Rode there and used their repair stand and pump.

Just last week I replaced my front tire due to wear. This is only the second time i had a tire last that long.... never had a flat on that tire.

Any season, as long as it's in the garage.

What’s a flop sweat?

And do you live in a place that has no spring and fall?

See me after class.

What’s a flat?

Oh, I remember now. Coming up on 24,000 miles since my last one after going tubeless. And now I’ll probably get one tomorrow.

I don't always flat, but when I do, it's dos sucky.

Lazyass 08-06-21 01:58 AM

I usually hit the road at sunrise, so summer.

Most of the time my flats appear after a nice long ride when I go out to the garage and notice it. I get 2-3 flats a year and only maybe once a year find myself patching on the side of the road. I prefer the garage type repair over the side of the road repair.

I'd rather notice it as I'm coming up the driveway, than when I'm heading out the door, and discover the bike isn't ready.

Around 6 pm in May along Hermosa Beach in front of the beach volleyball nets

Actually, I've heard that "ssssss" sound while rolling my bike into the garage. It was a bitter/ sweet feeling.

What is the point of this poll and thread?

Phil_gretz 08-06-21 07:21 AM

In the dark, with freezing rain glazing you. Ask me how I know this...

livedarklions 08-06-21 07:26 AM

Well, if it's winter, chances are extremely high I won't be on it when it flats in my laundry room.

Is the "which kind of herpes would you prefer" poll coming next?

Flop sweat happens on opening night, when you discover that the show you've poured your heart and soul into is a flop, and you'll have to go back to your job waiting tables.

Flop sweat doesn't happen when you're fixing a flat tire, unless maybe you're doing it in front of a live audience.

Riveting 08-06-21 07:50 AM

I prefer to flat when I'm near something to sit on while doing the repair. Grass, bench, large rock, give me something...anything other than squatting and squeezing the blood out of the legs.

Worst is when it's windy and sub-freezing and the bulky gloves have to come off your sweaty hands.

PeteHski 08-06-21 07:55 AM

Never, which is the main reason I prefer tubeless.

I had what would have been a certain flat last weekend (a medium sized sharp cut straight through the middle of the tread), but the sealant held enough pressure to keep on riding without issue. When I got home I just plugged the cut with a Dynaplug (30 sec job) for a permanent fix.

Thanks. Wonder if the OP experienced it after seeing the reactions to this thread.

It's only 10am here, but I am declaring this POTD.

Iride01 08-06-21 08:36 AM

Thread title and poll question don't match. I'm too conflicted now to answer!

WhyFi 08-06-21 08:42 AM

I prefer to preemptively deal with flats in my garage, beer in hand, which is why I've been running tubeless the last five years.
