Not to start a whole wax vs lube discussion, but that is what is kind of putting me off from going to wax. For me, it's convenient to just clean and lube and wipe clean a chain. Have a spare ready for when the current one wears out. No regular strip and re-wax process

Laser removal. Much longer lasting.

oh, wait.

Just to give you some idea how spoiled we Californians are by 8 months of no rain - it's supposed to rain on Sunday, which is my Big Ride Day, so I'm thinking of riding tomorrow, and feeling disgruntled about it, rather than taking it all in stride like people who live where it might rain anytime.

LesterOfPuppets 12-10-21 08:31 PM

Programme alert!

New episode of the Expanse is up.

:bday:

Not supposed to rain here until Monday night and through Tuesday, which will mean no Tuesday ride. This would bother me more if I was still working.
Those days a rainy Saturday would upset me quite a bit.

Inside, but you can access them if you need too.

WhyFi 12-10-21 09:53 PM

Well, that's done. Stripped the new chains, dumped out the old wax, melted some new stuff, bathed the clinky-clean chains, hung 'em to dry, broke the links of one and installed it. I even took care of some mildly annoying freehub drag while I was at it. 90% of my drivetrain maintenance for the next 10k miles is done! :bday:

I expect to see an average speed bump of no less than .6mph from this upgrade! ;)

Your chain lasts 10k miles?

Not if you're a serious cyclist.

HA!

No, unlike my other bike purchases like the Circuit or the Centurion, this would mean embarking on a $1500-$2000 project, which tempers my enthusiasm considerably. That level of expense I really need to talk with Mrs. GJ about, and she's likely to give me the hairy eyeball.

Instead, I'm cogitating on upgrading the 10sp Veloce on the Bianchi to 11sp Centaur, because the 50x12 on it is too small. I thought about upgrading the Battaglin from 10sp Chorus to 12sp Chorus, till I looked at the price of Chorus these days. Holy hell.

Speaking of projects and Bianchis. This frameset is calling out to me. It's about time I added an '80s MTB to the collection. I guess I should set up an eBay search for bullmoose bars right away.

I think there's a problem with Ebay's algorithm that chooses what to show you. Mrs. GeneJockey just bought a bassoon. So Ebay keeps telling her about other bassoons that are for sale, like she wants ANOTHER bassoon.

This seems universal and I find it reassuringly dumb.

All of mine is done, except for the occasional oiling of the chain. Not a big thing, really.

It’s foggy and damp out, but too warm (50’s F) to waste on the trainer. Time to ride!
