It's a good standard for elites. At the British elite level, I think it would be safe to say that most of those eligible are already known. For those teetering on the edge of qualification, there is of course the qualifying day to make it official. Over here in Oz, you have to qualify by way of proving yourself at state champs. Only a certain number can then go on to nats

A time standard would be cool, but need some kind of handicap for different tracks, no?

Lol, just seen a notification that British Cycling are bringing in qualification times for the IP and TT in the 2019 Nat Champs. 4'25" for the mens IP, 63s for the Kilo, 3'45" for the women's IP and 36.5s for the TT. A friend has looked at this years results and says that there would be only 8 men in the IP and Kilo, 11 in the women's IP and 6 in the TT. Takes out approx' 50-75% of this years field. Madness! Are there time qualifications in anyone else's Nat Champs? The twitter link isn't working. You can find the tweet by going here: Twitter: /DanBiggles22/status/1018841127074652160" To put them into perspective, those qualifying times would have won 3 of the 4 events at last year's US Elite Nationals: - Kilo: Win - 500M: 2nd - Men's 4K: WIN - Women's 3K: WIN My gut says that these abnormally high time standards are a way to systematically leave all team spots to those who are given a "coach's discretionary pick". The US does this, too...and it also sucks. |

In the US, I think the problem would be that hosting these regional qualifying races just wouldn't be profitable. USA Cycling routinely loses money hosting national championship events.
ESPECIALLY on the track, the US fields just aren't big enough to warrant having regional qualifying events. It's three weeks away from US Elite Track nationals, and the largest field is the men's omnium, with 31 participants. The women's sprint has *3* people registered. In fact, USAC loses so much on the Elite and Pro championships, it has tossed around the idea of scrapping the Pro stuff. |

The last time USAC had qualifications before Nationals was 2010 where the rules were basically: - Any rider who places in the top 25% of a Sprint event qualified for all Sprint events at Nationals. - Any rider who places in the top 25% of an Endurance event qualified for all Endurance events at Nationals. - People in competitive regions (TTown for example) could travel to less competitive regions and qualify). DLV hosted a 2-day event: Results : Dick Lane Velodrome - Fixed Gear Bicycle Racing (East Point) Atlanta, GA I think it was a cool idea. But, you do have to have USAC certified officials to staff the event. Those people have to attend a one-day class and pass a test. So, the concept is cool but logistics can probably be a pain. Setting a time standard is interesting. One question that will come up: Will one have to meet the time standard at a British/USA Cycling officiated event? Or will local track times count? |

US Elite Track Nationals are wrapping up. I didn't follow everything.
Anyone got any results or stories? BTW, Gideon Massie rode a 10.4" F200 (Q7) and a 1:04 Kilo (bronze). Not bad for a Masters-aged racer (36). Especially great being that he won the Elite Kilo 8 years ago in 2010...with a 1:04. That dude isn't aging at all, hahahaha. |
I watched a good bit of it on the stream (thanks USAC) saw that Kevin (nslkevin) and his team did some crushing in the TP. I think he missed his goal of 4:45 (maybe 4:48?) in the IP. A couple of people did slower pursuits than expected
|
Results are posted daily at USAC: https://legacy.usacycling.org/result...ear=2018&id=12
They don't show times on there, but I've seen assorted postings in social media. |

That dud isn't aging at all, hahahaha. for the men - the enduro who won the kilo last year doubled up this year, and also got 2nd in the IP with a 4.29. a teenager won the men's scratch race. most of the men on the national team seemed more focused on the team pursuit than on any of the mass start races, which wasn't really the case last year. for the women - jenn valente won everything she could get her hands on, per usual. |

Gideon seems like such an underrated racer now. It's a little bit sad I think.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4131/5...18a08655_b.jpg 2010 Elite Nationals Team Sprint I wonder if having him ride a longer custom Tiemeyer or TK1 would have unleashed that extra 1-2% go get him to the international podiums. I wonder if he's riding the 60cm TK1 now. (Random fact: That's my head behind Lakatosh's helmet, BTW, hahaha) |
Massie is "limby" with a shorter torso in relation to his height. He can easily get away with riding a frame that many would say is too small for him. Ondrej Sosenka was a perfect example of this. Guys like this need more saddle to bar drop vs. a longer top tube. A 60cm frame may be too long, even at 6'4".

Unlike last year, there were a lot more men under 11.0 in the F200 and under 1:07 in the kilo. Nice to see some better sprinting depth there. It was a bit disappointing only seeing 8 women reged for the sprint and keirin, about half as many as last year.

Strange that USAC is posting results for timed events with no times. A few years ago at masters nationals they even put up "audit trails" with half-lap splits. Does anyone know if the times for kilo, 500, pursuit and sprint qualifiers will be available?
unfortunately that's your best bet. |

As Queerpunk notes, yes, they someone is posting photos of the heat results printouts to Twitter. But, finding those is like finding a needle in a haystack...especially days, weeks, months, and years after an event. On a related note: The area of the USA Cycling website that deals with event and rider results is awful. No excuse for it to be so bad for so long. They shouldn't have put money into making an app (instead of simply printing cards). They should have modernized and improved their results website. |
I have photos of the M sprint qual and M 4km times, but haven't reached the minimum of 10 posts yet. I'll try sending them to queerpunk and they can share 'em.

Pro Triathlete Jordan Rapp in there.

Argon18 sprint bike definitely in development, starting from scratch and should be very very quick
|
Any of you been watching Junior Worlds? A young woman from Germany won just about everything in the sprint stuff; an Aussie kid rode two 1.00.XX kilos. And my mentee rode to 7th in an insanely fast Madison. So I'm pretty chuffed.
|
I've been watching a bit on the youtube replay (not geoblocked! It's a miracle) but still in day1.
Dang... two 1:00:x kilo's is no joke |
The madison was 54.6 kph, so excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.
