Creaking Noise

I developed a creaking noise recently while using road bike on a fluid trainer that only was present during riding out of saddle in higher gears.
Checked crank arm pinch bolts and pulled seat post out and re-lubed , but problem persisted.
Checked 105 cassette lock ring tightness with torque wrench and found it had loosen up about 3 notches. Torqued to 40nm.
Rode out of saddle in higher gears and creaking disappeared. A little surprised lock ring would loosen if torqued properly.
Checked my rear wheel that I use for road riding and 105 cassette lock ring was also loosened a couple of notches.

Moral of story check everything periodically even if torque to specs.

I developed a creaking noise recently when getting out of bed in the morning. My girlfriend told me to man up and stop whining

Sounds like you need to get torque to specs :)

Those cassette lockrings have the clicking detents which, IMHO, interfere with an accurate torque reading.

Another variable is if the threads are greased or dry. 40Nm on a greased thread will produce more clamping force than 40Nm on dry threads.

But your point is well taken, it doesn’t hurt to check torque once in a while.
