77 miles ID on my own equipment. Felt strong after weeks of being off the mark.

jaxgtr 02-19-23 05:31 PM

Did 74 today, the temps were awesome at 75 , wind basically nothing at 5 or 6. Such a different compared to yesterday

Today rode a total of 30 miles, 4 different bikes. I have been making some pretty major changes in my bike set ups, mostly due to chronic spinal issues that have become much more prevalent. I am doing away with traditional and compact drop bars, going to Ritchey Beacon handlebars and VO Porteur bar, 2 of each. I am about 100 miles short of 1000 ytd.

Hope you get your back issues figured out.

Thanks, jaxgtr. I have been dealing with spinal issues for 30+years, including 4 surgeries. I have known for a long time that it is quite likely my spine issues would get to where they are now. They are not going away, but I can make changes to, hopefuly, minimize the impact on my quality of life. As long as I can still ride in comfort, I am ok with the changes. If/when it gets to the point that I cannot ride, that will be a tough one to accept.

I'm putting in 20-25k after work each afternoon this month. Just to kill a bit of time, to maintain fitness, to accumulate distance: and because it gets me out of the house.

My brother cracked his spine when he was in the Army. I believe it was the 5, 6,7, but I could be off a few. He has a heck of a time doing stuff, but is still upright and mobile. He does a lot of yoga and as it happens, the PT he was using to when was in the active duty lives 3 doors down from him now, so every so often, she comes over to work on the area around the upper back and lower neck. Said it has made a word of difference for his specific injury. He believes the doctor that did the initial surgery screwed him up. He has had several follow surgeries that have tried to repair the initial damage and they sort of mention but don't outright blame the original surgeon. He would not let the Army touch him after that.

Might have to get a smart bike type of thing, I have a Stages Bike SB20 that I use with Rouvy for my indoor riding and it is super easy to adjust and being able to connect to the apps, does not make it stupid boring.

last minute 33 miles OD as the temps steadily dropped & the wind kicked up in the face. Later, after the ride, the temps popped back up above freezing.... Story of my life.

Popped up above freezing? It was in the upper 80's here today... Had to turn the AC on.

it was not too bad at first [maybe 35F?] , but shortly in to it, the temp readout displayed 22F. what drew my attention to check was the wind slicing into the eyes... causing some crispy cold blinks. Got back to the AO & temps were fluctuating 32F & 33F.

No where bc I'm trying to pick a new bike!!

BBB_Adrift 02-23-23 08:12 AM

I've managed 23km after work each day this week. I'm feeling proud (OK, smug) and will celebrate with a big long ride out tomorrow morning with the cycle gang. Maybe 100k or so. Living the dream!

Breadfan 02-23-23 08:51 AM

17. Trying to work my way up to 30, three times a week.

jaxgtr 02-25-23 03:31 PM

Did 75 today. Very warm today, got up close to 90 by the time I finished. The 15 miles I rode along the beach was much cooler as the wind coming off the water dropped the temps about 10 degrees.

mschwett 02-25-23 04:10 PM

61 very cold miles. was hoping that some of the alleged snow that fell on our higher hills was still there - but nope!

Yeah. Managed a slogging 90k into a gusty headwind with the gang on Friday morning. Surely that much suffering has got to be good for the soul?

32 miles for me...

Dont know how fer but I rode for 2 hours.

rsbob 03-01-23 07:29 PM

32 miles @ 17 MPH @ 42*F.

Tried out my aero design bike bag and water bottle cover. Had a pair of aero socks that were just about impossible to put on, so re-purposed them. Think I saved an extra .0025 Watt. Or maybe its the Hunts.

20 miles on a balmy 32-34°F day and got a flat otherwise would have went for 30 miles but it was a slow leak and I my front tire was so muddy I did not want to mess around with fixing as it would have been a nightmare. for the last 6 miles of the ride I had to stop and pump it up every 1/4 mile or so. got home and hosed the bike off and cleaned the tire up and it was small like really small sharp rock that was the culprit.

bedolaga 03-02-23 10:39 AM

Today I ran a distance of 19 miles.

1 real hour faking it on Makuri Island.

Troul 03-03-23 08:21 PM

slipped in 22 miles before the snow flakes flew in. Chill 25F out with a 12mph headwind.

you are a sick human, which I deeply respect.

jaxgtr 03-04-23 08:31 PM

Weather was iffy this morning, so I ran some errands, and then rode 45 miles in the Italian countryside on Rouvy. 4k total elevation gain for a flatlander is tough, legs are feeling it tonight.

it's been so long that i'm longing for saddle soreness.

jaxgtr 03-05-23 03:57 PM

I decided to work on my climbing ability seeing that I have none of that here and bridges are just not long enough, so did another rouvy route. For some reason, I decided that gaining 2200 ft in elevation in 7.1 miles was a good idea. I was wrong, it was a horrible idea, but I did that, so I can mark it off my agenda. However, I did see where they had a tour of the Alps, so I signed up for that. 5 rides of varying distances between 18 and 25 miles, with all of them having elevation gain over 3800 ft, 1 is 4500-ish if I recall..... that might take a me a while to get to the finish line :thumb:

Oh and my wife came into my bike room and said, you are not allowed to die before me, so just keep that in mind. I guess the 14 to 18% incline sections I was huffing and puffing a little too hard for her liking.
