Found in a nearby farm field

Wife and I were walking the dogs on the dirt tractor paths in a nearby farm field. I've been on those paths hundreds of times. Today, at one point I looked down and found this item. If you've ridden or worked on older road bikes you probably know what it is. Most of my bikes are older, and still uses them. But where I found it was at least 200 yards from the nearest pavement. I looked and there were no other bike parts laying around. Just odd where I found it.

I thought this was going to be one of those "I found a Schwinn Paramount in an old barn" threads.

Very disappointed.

I've worked on bikes from the 70's, 80's and 90's, but just my own and maybe a few friends. Evidently mine were too cheap to have this.

I'll wait patiently for other's to tell us about it.

200 yards is a pretty good toss. Maybe a semi pro golfer got really P.O.'d with it and just happened to have his driver with him when it fell off his bike. <grin>

Part of a down tube shifter. Hard to fathom how it got where it was. :foo:

It’s part of Shimano Indexed Shifters (SIS). It goes on the braze-on shifter boss between the shift lever and the frame on the down tube.

Like shelby said, part of a downtube shifter (the base onto the friction lever does its mojo). Maybe someone decided to go X1 during the ride or, made a scavenger hunt out of his/her bicycle or, someone was taking an old bike to the scrapyard and it was shedding parts as it jolted on the back of the truck or, ...
So many stories or one bored-sick mind that I have!
(BTW, I'd keep just as a memento or fidget toy)

Handy item to have in your stash as the tabs often break.

It's ok. Just be aware of other people's feelings when you post.

I happen to agree. It's not a serious gripe, but when you read a thread title like that and then get into the meat of the message and find out it's not what you expected it can sometimes shatter the high expectations you've come to develop after years of BF revelations. Now, if it had been the comparable Campy part lying there in the dirt...
