I was thinking if he didn't have a bike, I could loan him one with DT shifters, a 52/42 crank, and a corncob cassette, but he might just use it to crush me.

I've considered doing a metric on Zwift, but that's about as much time on the trainer as I'd be able to stomach.

I wonder if they count shrinkage from evaporation because our snowfall depth is similar. It was around 12" last Wednesday and is now ~8.5".

I have one of those. It sits on the trainer, where it belongs.

I checked his profile. He even RUNS on Zwift.
BTW his 100 mile ride included AdZ, which he did in 57 minutes. His response to my sister's "You guys should ride together" was that he was going to be in CA this summer. Of course, it's a big state. |

I stand for a little while every 10-15 minutes. Also, pushing a big gear tends to be a bit better.

The TT bike on the trainer is my nemeses. I'm now going to give this thing a shot.

TT bike on a trainer sounds like unnecessary torture, unless you're using it to train yourself to ride in the TT position. I mean, it's not like the trainer cares how aero you are!

I don't Zwift either since they started charging for it. I was one of the original beta testers and I think I got a free year when they eventually started charging but by then, I was out of the cartoon/video game training thing and just wanted to ride for fun. I see the appeal for group rides and I do miss that a little but I'm more into traveling the world and seeing the scenery, now.

Speaking of gears, I discovered something interesting the other week. I was doing one of the TdZ rides, and riding in a group of about 8 or so other riders, and I found myself most comfortable at a cadence in the high 80s. It seemed easier to do the occasional microsurges to keep up, in a bigger gear. And when I'd spin up to my usual road cadence of 95-105, my HR would go up about 5 bpm, but would drop back down if I went to a taller gear and slower cadence.
|
We're all built different and nothing is more personal than cadence.
OK, maybe saddles. |
Funny thing is that on the road I naturally spin faster. I'll look down and see "105" on the head unit and I wasn't even thinking I was spinning that fast. On the trainer I'll look down and see "89" and I didn't think I was spinning that slowly!
|
I can't manage more than 40 minutes on a trainer without Zwift. And those 40 minutes are exhausting, because I have to CONCENTRATE to keep putting out power.
But IRL >>>>>>> Zwift. |
