Your C&V Highlights of 2022
What were your memorable moments/purchases/events/sales/etc. Over the last twelve months?
I didn't pick up any new projects, and only helped my son finish his Zeus early in the year. The big thing for me this year(& every year) has been riding with Thomas. Cino was the highlight for me, watching my kid ride his own bike(vs. on a tandem in 2021). He had a great weekend, and without a hitch. We logged a few hundred miles together this year, but that weekend in Montana is pretty special. For 23 I am going to ride more and get rid of some bikes and parts. And spend more time with my boy. What about you? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...352e295212.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...76ee3ee76c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8c761d76f1.jpg |
Riding RAGBRAI on an '83 Claud Butler Dalesman.
Getting an '83 Paramount Elite. And maybe some other bikes. Yeah. |
Started a C&V Cycling Club for the Sacramento Area
Took my inspiration from the Bay Area and Pasadena rides that have been going for a while. Started the Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Club this summer and the club has been going strong! We have our Christmas ride this Saturday.

I got my 72 Witcomb done after gugificazione and paint here in Cambodia this Sept.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7cb9560de7.jpg I also got my grander sportier done back in May. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...135ba3d2d3.jpg |
One specific moment comes to mind, which kind of captures all that I love about being part of the vintage bike community: getting together with like-minded people and having a good time.
And that doesn't get much better than on the first Saturday of October in Gaiole in Chianti. This year was exceptional: the weather, the music, the food and the wine at La Gorgia ... |
It would have to be the Mercet threads.

This got finished.

Any thing I do related to bikes is a win for me. The standouts are the acquisition of the Bianchi
So I don't repeat a picture to avoid a ticket from the "repeat picture police" https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ec5aeca4_b.jpg71BianchiDone2 on Flickr I think the most impact to me was the generosity of the members of this forum who contributed to my refurbishment efforts with better parts and those who contributed to my knowledge helping me from making mistakes or going down the path of frustration. I would be poorer without those contributions from BF members. Next year targets is an effort towards getting the Frejus on the road with or without period parts. Need to get the post removed! From a hardware perspective, finish my daughters bike. Most importantly is getting more riding done, either out on the road or on the cycle trainer (Nordictrack). |
Early this year I picked up the 87 Black Lightning from another member,
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5ca7df13ba.jpg Late this fall, I found the 82 Araya Road 821 locally, https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...934fad7cd4.jpg |
For me it has been the slow relocation to a new home after retirement and establishing regular riding cadence after 40+ years as a pastor. There's still a great number of C&V parts to unpack and organize, but a new garage/workshop is in my future. :D

Rode this in Palm Springs in February:
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f8b79478c5.jpg Spent a week riding in Tucson with these hooligans in March: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5a07893d37.jpg Yet another long weekend with the same bunch, more or less, at Eroica California in April: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...83c3d7f109.jpg Built this in June after a 14 month wait on completion of a total restoration: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ede8006438.jpg Went for a lovely gravel ride in PA with Prowler: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5f65b7b390.jpg Then spent ANOTHER five days with this same group of cold, wet hooners, plus or minus: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6ed4562780.jpg And through it all got to ride with my two best riding partners, Gary and Sally. They kick my butt but do it with a smile. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0132fcb59e.jpg |
Nice cap. :) |
Nice t-shirt. :) |
My highlight purchase of this year would have to be my Colnago.

Got a very nice 1973 Paramount P13 model from a nice road trip to Waco, TX.
Wonderful ride Teravail Rampart 32 tires and also have a set of Campy record wide flange tubulars for most classic ride. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4391d9d31.jpeg |
Oh! One more huge highlight!
Connecting with seagrade in New Zealand and his gift of vintage Roval spokes to repair my rear wheel on my Lotus Super Pro Aero. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...71d8d1b6c3.jpg |
Rode 71 miles on my 71st birthday aboard an '87 Ciocc. I'll be going for 72 in June of '23.

To join the Bike Forums.
You guys are full of wonder and surprise. You have mint condition real museum pieces. I've been overwhelmed over and over again:thumb: I should have joined much earlier:) |
My C&V highlights?
- Sold half a dozen FDs and RDs as well as 2 frames. Really happy since I was not going to use those. Weight off the chest to get them out. - Garbage picked a mid-90s Trek 920 rigid MTB frame while walking the dogs. Its OXII True Temper tubing and I am in the middle of tearing it down and building with modern 1x9 for one of my kids. Itll be a perfect fit for the tame river bottom singletrack in our metro. - Removed paint from a mid-90s Cannondale CAAD3 and painted it with a 3 color splatter over black base. Had to get a fork, so its a 1" carbon fork. Modern Ultegra shifting is on it now. Really fun project, though I let it drag on way too long. Biggest highlight?- Just riding my old frames and chatting with various people I come across who have an interest in C&V still. This past RAGBRAI was a blast as there were a lot of people riding really nice older frames who had a ton to say. |
hmmmm been an odd year, mileage down do to a number of things and had to miss Cino

More like a low-light with a silver lining here :)
While aboard the Davidson, I was hit by a car back in September, wrecking the rear wheel and dinging up other bits. After over two months awaiting the settlement, then ordering/waiting on parts, I ended up with a tubular wheelset replacing the old clinchers, and an extra splash of color. Not gonna buff out: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f3d2b3312e.png All repaired, and a new look: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d216449ba8.png Being without a bike after a couple weeks drove me nuts, so I flew up to WA in mid-October, picked up all my bikes and most of my spares, then drove back to AZ in a rental van stuffed to the gills. I now have all my bikes (with the exception of 2 zeros left in WA and OR), and on Thanksgiving morning took the Medici up South Mountain with a bunch of other riders for the 35th Annual Turkey Day Ride - my first: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9affca6221.png https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80666474dc.png Nice to have the Colnago and Bianchi here, too, and they've also been getting some miles as they've been serviced in turn - they were hanging in a storage facility for a year, and needed some TLC to get them back to my standard of preparation. It's quite nice to again have multiple bikes from which to choose - I missed that. Now I don't have to ride the Davidson's (new) wheels into the ground as my only bike any longer! DD |
Like @rccardr, my highlights were trips with a crew of vintage riders (not sure how classic they are). That started with Tucson in early March:
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...de7ba28330.jpg Followed by Eroica CA in April: https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9571b1af56.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8225c76269.jpg Then, Cino in July: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...260460c966.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4d441da1c7.jpg Finally, it was Seattle to Vancouver in October: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...181b634e34.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...acc504feac.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c7d32dcb85.jpg Looking forward to more rides with the old guys next year! |
Adding MTB's,
Eroica and the return pilgrimage even though I sucked at it, had a great time, same for Crater lake. Fantastic riding in the Gorge including with my son, even better than usual, never disappoints. |
