Tubby got what he deserved and is an embarrassment to cycling. Maybe don't stand in the middle of the road talking on ur cellphone blocking the 5000lbs of motorized weaponry...moron.

hotbike 11-17-22 06:11 AM

We shouldn’t be fat-shaming the cyclist, maybe his is an honest attempt at losing weight.
But he should have let the car/truck thing pull off the road, you can see the rear end is blocking traffic.
Really just disgraceful, the whole scene.

Your post is an embarrassment to ****posting. In the US, I'm pretty sure that's assault with a deadly weapon.

I think I'd want to know why the cyclist was blocking the car before I'd make such a statement. The driver's action is completely indefensible. It's very close to attempted murder.

Bald Paul 11-17-22 06:57 AM

At least there is plenty of evidence. License plate (tag) and a good shot of the driver.
I think the "I didn't see him" defense is out the window.
I agree with livedarklions - no matter what caused the confrontation, attempting to run over a cyclist with your Jaguar is a no-no. Of course, the driver probably has enough money to replace the bike, once he gets out of jail.

The article indicated the driver was paying for the bike, the cyclist was unhurt and there would be no criminal charges. I don't think this would be handled this way in the US.

All the motorist had to do was wait at the scene and do nothing. I'm willing to bet the worst he would've gotten was a finger wag and a "bad boy" from the cops.

Let's try to maintain some perspective here.

It was a hybrid.

Whenever you see these videos, it only leaves you wanting more -- more information. If the cyclists was in the wrong from the get go, his action(s) are greatly mitigated by the driver using a deadly weapon in an obviously illegal manner.

Iride01 11-17-22 10:05 AM

I'd be embarrassed if my Jaguar was only worth £47,000.

Paul Barnard 11-17-22 10:20 AM

I need to know what happened before what we saw on the video.

No, these threads work best when they're based on the least amount of information.

It appears as if the cyclist was deliberately blocking the vehicle.

The question is why.

If he was on a call with the police, then there should be some background. Perhaps a close pass or something, and the cyclist managed to get out in front of the vehicle.

Nonetheless, once the vehicle pushed over the top of the bike, the only solution is to wait for the police to come and sort it out.

Would you use your "nice" Jaguar to crush bikes?

I think it would be equally satisfying irrespective of which vehicle I used.

People drive £47,000 luxury vehicles as status symbols. It's obvious that this cyclist, whatever his motivation was rightfully having none of it. Cars are cars. Status is a construct.

People don't tend to stand on the street in protest against powerful forces unless what they perceive as a grand transgression has taken place.

Whatever transpired between the two, the car driver turned into a sad, sad baby when his status symbol didn't get him the desired result.

Actual rich people are on firm enough emotional footing to not act like babies on the street.

The average price paid for a new car in the U.S. in October 2022 was $48,281 (~ £42,000), so £47,000 gets you an average car with a few more options.

Darth Lefty 11-17-22 12:51 PM

Why isn’t it a 23.5 ton Jag?

Looks like an F-[edit: Pace] type to me. Even at £47,000 British Pounds, assuming this car wasn't purchased in the last few weeks, the exchange rate would've put it in the $65,000-$90,000 USD range depending on options, engine, etc...

The Pound has tanked recently, but still nothing about Jaguars branding or image positions itself as a common-peoples car.

Metric system units.

One of the dopiest generalizations I have ever read.

The Jaguar Pace series starts at $48,000, almost exactly the average new car selling price.

Starts at $48k...It'd be worth it to fly to whatever market you are in & drive it back at that price. Here on Jaguar USA it starts at $52,400 base price, base model & goes upwards to $90k
