It is hard to find since it is a closed road which goes up the back side of Sahalee. It goes through a residential district up to Sahalee from the north end of Lk Samm. Riders which live in that area know about it but doubt anyone else does since its not a main route and only for masochists. It’s short but a real gasp-fest for me at the top.

People taking a walk in the upper neighborhoods who hear me gasping for breath probably think, here is another idiot trying for a heart attack. And they are probably right. Next time will wear my HRM.

Cracked 40mi for the first time yesterday. Pace was slow in comparison to some of y'all but I'm happy for the milestone nonetheless. Been a casual rider for a while but I'm trying to build my discipline and increase my distance. Glad I did some stretching after or I may not have been able to walk today...

34 miles ....longest of this year so far .....been rehabbing a badly broken leg : (

rsbob 05-25-21 08:53 AM

Scored a Wahoo Kickr from a neighbor and hooked it up to Zwift yesterday and promptly tried to kill myself doing 3 15K segments at a high pace since I have an unreasonable issue being passed and trying to catch others. Know I will calm down since this is not a sane way to ride, but for the meantime, it never hurt so good.

32 yesterday on a rather warm day. Thirsty afterwards...

rsbob 05-26-21 08:23 PM

51 miles, 2000’ climbing, ave speed, 18. Tried two GUs today and I didn’t fold like I usually do at about 40 miles. Had good power all the way to the end. Placebo? All I know is that I cruised.

24 loop. 700 gain. A detour here, a road closed there and the occasional garbage truck!

Nice loop. You ride out to Golden Gardens, Alki, Edmonds? Used to live in Lake City so road lots of roads up to Everette and down to Tacoma.

Yes, no and yes. Golden Gardens is a regular. Don't venture to W. Seattle much. Edmonds both up and back and a loop via Olympic view Drive, Perrinville, Lake Ballinger, Perkins Way (which we did today - great curving downhill). Lately Discovery Park, Smith Cove, Myrtle Edwards, Seattle Center and home. Last week was the two ferry ride. To Downtown Seattle and passenger ferry to Kingston, to Indianola, Poulsbo, Winslow, ferry to downtown and home. Loop - BGT then over to Kirkland, 520, UW and home. Two weeks ago, 520, down to Renton, around south end of lake and home.

Been riding more since I had a strained calf and hiking and cross-country skiing were not working. Finally did a hike a few weeks back - carefully.

It sounds like you get in more than a few good rides weekly over on the eastside.

A measly 17 miles at 21 MPH ave speed, including city riding. Pretty flat. A good cardiac workout.

Do it again and take pictures or a video would be better. Good for you for giving them a go. Think you will lean to love them but the flat pedalers will disagree. Everyone learning clipless initially falls, so consider yourself initiated! Next fall will be at a busy intersection with lots watching. Then you will lean to unclip prior to coming to a stop.

I'm not sure which type you have but I remember my LOOKS. This slippery plastic blob on the bottom of the shoe which slid nicely on asphalt and was nearly impossible to walk with. Thank god for the recessed cleats of the spd variety.

But I also remember trying to make sure I got the alignment correct so did not tighten the screws. Well, the shoe turns but the cleat stays engaged, and engaged. Finally, pedaled to my retaining wall and stopped and undid the shoe from my foot so I could be released from the trap! Ahhhhhhhhh, memories........

You brought back memories of my first year with Look cleats, I didn’t adequately tighten my cleats down, so they swiveled a bit on my shoes so learned to crank them down. Then walking down non-carpeted steps and slipping more than once. To this day I am super careful around steps. OP, beware.

41 miles and 5200 feet of climb in the local hills. Will do better Memorial Day.

kahn 05-29-21 05:55 PM

37.3 with a gain of about 1,700 feet. Images taken at the Edmonds, WA, ferry dock with incredibly clear views of Mt Baker up near the Canadian border.approx 100 miles northeast.
