Yes. Spotted lantern fly from Asia. They have invaded parts of the NE. I stomped at least a half dozen today. They are very prevalent around my office building. Lots of plant life across the street.

New cleats and new shoes. Off to do a 35-40 mile ride. What could possibly go wrong? :innocent:

T minus 3 days and counting. All systems go despite covid spike in LA county (and everywhere else for that matter).
I am glad we did not choose Spirit for our airline. |

I am glad we did not choose Spirit for our airline. We fly to western Colorado on the 20th. I'll be triple masking. |

I think the bigger problem is that Datlas probably doesn't smell like a pack of Marlboros, pint of Everclear, and regret.

I am askeered the TSA will confiscate any bike tools that I might bring. I will have to ask the FoF from whom I am borrowing the bicycle if he has a pump and multi-tool etc. I can borrow.
Supposedly they are ok with tools less than 7 inches long, so I would like to think I am good. There is a bad joke there but I won't touch it. |

Anecdotal, I know, but I can think of at least three people off the top of my head who have had multiple crashes and when I ride with them it sure seems like they are somewhat blind to obvious dangers. I'm drawing a bit of a fine line here between being reckless and clueless. Anyway, most of those people have quit riding over the years and as much as I hate to say it, that's probably for the best. I remember one guy in particular -- we were riding side by side in a double paceline and he started drifting over towards me. I didn't say anything because I assumed he would see me before he put me in the ditch but he just kept drifting until I had to yell at him before it was too late. He felt terrible. In hindsight, and putting together some questionable behavior on other rides with this guy in the past, I came to the conclusion that he doesn't have any peripheral vision. It would explain most of his crashes. |
