Nice day for a ride today, but MAN OH MAN! was it COLD along the creek! It was low 50s when I left the house, so I had a long sleeve jersey and base layer, vest, bibs and knee warmers and I was fine, till I got to the road along the creek. According to my Garmin it was 45, which I can readily believe. I ended up curling my fingers into my palms as I rode, since I usually don't go for full finger gloves till it's below 50. Brrrrrrrrrr!!
Of course, later I was sweating, so off came the vest. I think the temp range was 45-70 degrees. I often don't know why I choose a particular bike on a particular day, but today it was Mrs. Peel's turn. As mehitabel the cat would say, "theres a dance or two in the old dame yet". I didn't throw down any 1000W sprints, but I didn't treat her like she's fragile either. |
This tunnel was supposed to be one of three creating a rail line linking Anderson SC and Knoxville. They only got about 1/4 way through before funding ran out (and then the Civil War started).

We spent a week Cycling in Mallorca in 2001. It was cycling heaven. My wife bawled the day that we flew home. She didn't want to leave. Seriously.

Frozen fingers or a few ducats? Easy choice to me since you will use the snot out of the gloves.
I have the opposite problem. My long fingered gloves are too hot except on our coldest days. I needed something not so warm and more breathable. |

I rode slightly faster on Gatorskins today, than I did on Open Paves two weeks ago, over the same course. In two weeks i plan to try Ultrasport II.

Coldest day was 15 degrees. I think this year the issue is going to be keeping my knee warm. I guess on my left leg I will wear a knee warmer under my tights. Got on the bike today. I felt fresh and knee wasn’t feeling off. I was maintaining about 20 mph without much effort. I got passed by a small group going 25 so decided to stay with them. Hung on for about 8 mins and then my knee started to burn so I fell off. Now i’m wondering if it was the icy hot that I was feeling. I wanted to ride outside but was concerned it would start hurting when I was far away and have to ride all the way back. |

Also...... warm your fingers by spining your arm like a windmill, and force the blood to your hands. Warm your hands by working harder. one can change your temperature of anything by working harder or easier it works for me. This is probaly the most important thing to regulate temperature. Fingers co[d ?? /do a full effort sprint. If you need to take ;off your gloves, put them under your jacket, or put the open ends tucked into each other so the air can not get in. I have more but I am too tired now. My mommy sewed my name in my mittens. !!!!! |
