Yep. My aunt and uncle ran a couple of pretty successful businesses in the Carmel/Carmel Valley area when I was growing up, and did very well for themselves. They relocated to Redding about a decade ago. I have a cousin that still lives in Carmel Valley, but haven't been to visit in far too long.

Redding is decidedly a big step up from the Carmel Valley.

I don't mind Zwift group rides, most of the time. However, I usually struggle to align my ride time window with an appropriate group for my fitness. Recently, I tend to start with one of the Watopia bot groups (which you can jump into any time), and almost invariably end up rolling off the front at a slightly higher pace with a handful of like-minded folks. It usually turns out to be a pretty good time with more realistic variations in effort than the flat-line bot pace.

Very good, of course, but I'm wondering what the relevance is to longevity. I retired at O-6 and one of my buddies who also did, died this Spring, poor man.
What does O-6 refer to? |

Up? Maybe we have different definitions of "up". I'm still not sure why they decided on Redding.

They could get anything they wanted, healthcare wise. My dad was getting a $2000 EPO shot several times a week(daily?) there for awhile. Blood transfusions., Sometimes two per day. You name it. Finally he got pneumonia and was too weak to receive the transfusion. RIP
What does O-6 refer to? O-6 is Colonel, Navy Captain, etc. |
I did not know that

I find them a good once or twice a week way to blast away an hour of sweet spot. Agree about the scheduling issue. I'll have to try the bot group thing. Never heard of that. What are they listed as?

Select Watopia as your ride world, and it will give you the option in the lower window to ride with a pace bot. There are 4 bots riding at different w/kg levels to set the pace for the group. Select the one that fits your needs. Be aware that the w/kg effort by the bot is steady, regardless of terrain. Recently, I've been starting with the C-bot group (2.5 w/kg) and typically end up with a group of 4-8 riders off the front at 2.7-2.9, with climbing efforts in the 3.0-3.5 range. For me, it's a good effort in the SS to FTP range, with a few more intense sections for spice. This varies somewhat depending on the route. You can also peel off any time and ride on your own without ending your ride session.

Tomorrow I've got my eye appointment. Hopefully it's routine and I can get back to awesomeness.

The problem you might find is that the pace bots go at a constant 'power', so unlike real riders, they don't exert more effort on climbs, so if you ride like you would outside, you'll drop them on the climbs. On descent where you mighty push 100w just to keep your legs moving, they're STILL putting out their specified power, so they'll blow past you. It works best on the flat routes.

Do they have a wussy-bot option where they always put out 100w??
