I have two Garmin computers, a 1030+ and 520, and neither have ever had any issues.

My wife can't seem to get the hang of her 520, so I'm thinking it might be a chick/electronics thing. At least in my house.

My first, and last experience with Garmin was hand held gps units. I had two. The first worked flawlessly; the second, with all of N America built in, had to be sent in for replacement. I still have them here somewhere. I wonder if they still work

There were selfish motivations - I was driving a 911 and my wife was in a higher end Audi when the first kid started driving. Neither of us were too wild about them driving our cars. Plus, if they only drove my wife's car, their insurance premium would be based on the 911 as it was the more expensive car, and if you ever want a shock check out the cost of insurance for a kid to be insured on one of those.

The reality was that they each needed a car. They were both real active with band, sports and other activities, and they could not rely on us to get them everywhere. Band and volleyball both had practices at 6:00 or 6:30 am during their seasons. I had to have a car to get to and from work, and my wife certainly wasn't going to be left without a car. We have absolutely zero public transportation in our area.

Somewhat rougher than normal ride today. Different route, with a pretty bad surface and a fair amount of wind. I still worked hard. And I still want to ride again, so not all that terrible.

They were great. I still have one from about 1998 and it worked last time I fired it up. I think they bought too many companies and ran them to lean.

I'd say that, but she's not exactly computer-unsavvy, and there aren't many ways to press Start and Stop. Not like she has issues uploading routes or anything.

My 6 brothers and sisters and I did not have cars in high school. My father read somewhere that student's grades suffered if they were allowed to drive. The only driving I did before graduation was during driver training. I wanted a car so bad I graduated early. Once I found out it was possible I changed my major from science to general, because a general major only required 150 credits compared to 170 for science. I took summer classes and weekend classes to get the credits.
Saved money I made as a dishwasher and bought a Ford Galaxie for $850. Had to finance part of it.

We rarely drove the parent's cars. My oldest brother borrowed Dad's Buick when he was home from the Air Force on leave. He tossed a cigarette out and it went into the back seat and caught fire later in the garage. Just burned the back seat and insurance paid to fix it but it smelled like fire. The next time he was on leave he drove it again and ran into the garage wall and caved in the passenger door.

Same here, but if she just touches something electronic you can expect it to go berserk. Maybe she's had too many Covid vax shots, who knows. I'll have to put some spoons on her neck or something to check.

My parents bought houses within walking distance to school.

My Mom and Dad would let me sit next to them and steer, like Bruce would sing about. At 16 and 1 week, I took Mom's Plymouth Fury with a 361 V8 and totalled it into a tree showing off.. At 18 I got a job as a truck driver, and since then have driven way over a million miles without an accident.

Garmin 530 over here. While it’s running never any issues. Connects to all my stuff fine. The bontrager lights got qurky, and it started to bother me so I disconnected those.

Only issue I have with the garmin, is uploads. Sometimes I finish a ride and it uploads normal, other times it takes me like 30 mins to get it to upload. My phone connects fine, it just won’t upload.


Battery seems to only last about 2.5 rides.

No car either until I finished high school and bought my own. I did drive my parents' cars to work, but otherwise I was on my bike.

I had one of my parents' cars catch fire when I was leaving work and started it. An electrical fire started under the dash. Scared the crap out of me.

Ours was too, when I was a kid.

The kids' high school is about 5 miles from our house, and requires travelling on some very busy streets. I wouldn't be comfortable walking to it, and certainly wouldn't have wanted my kids doing so, especially my daughter.

My wife grew up in southern Louisiana, and started driving on the roads when she was about 12. No license. When she was old enough to get her license, she drove herself alone to the license office.
