I've actually been counting the beats!
I could say more but don’t want to venture into P&R. |

I've that belief attributed to an early astronaut among others. Doesn't seem easily falsifiable.

His wife started having kids and he disappeared. Kinda inconsiderate of her. I think my ticker is ok @150bpm for extended periods but I don't use a monitor. I've normally had a resting rate in the low 40s, freaks nurses out. Lately it's been higher, mid 50s. This concerns me a bit. |

It would require about 100 years and a very large N, monitored constantly the whole time. You'd have to bulk up the N to account for all those who die from misadventure or other causes unrelated to running out of heartbeats.

The whole idea of fixed number of heartbeats is not rational. Makes as much sense as using an IV of bleach to treat COVID.
|
If everyone died because they ran out of heartbeats, that would not explain natural cause deaths that do not feature the heart suddenly stopping.

A guy like that used to ride with us. He was a great climber and going up the Rock Store climb he was one of the fastest and he was in the 190bpm range.

I see the greater problem in knowing what the fated number of heartbeats was for each person. It's easy to say, "That was it!" post-hoc.

Back in the day, I did that to a couple of nurses. At the time, my doc was an ex-trackie and understood about athletes. We laughed about that one.

My typical resting HR is in the high 50s to low 60s. I don't know if that's good or bad, but if I'm breathing I'm happy.

Mrs. GeneJockey, growing up in a farming area, once heard, "You'll eat a bushel of dirt before you die." To her young mind, this indicated that as long as you didn't eat that bushel of dirt, you'd live forever. You just have to avoid people who offer you a big container of dirt and a spoon.
