The rides are suuuuuper flat and, given the lack of elevation, they're not at all impressive in terms of speed. The time/dedication is, far and away, the most impressive/sadistic thing. I like riding, but I don't think that I'd make it to Day 3 without seriously considering throwing in the towel because... why am I doing this, again?

Pffft - to be a medium-sized fish in a little pond? :p

Besides, that's prolly not the most effective way of going about that.

I usually feel the same way about the whole "doing things for the sake of doing them" deal. Like Everesting. Or even my friend doing his 600K feet of gain every year. It doesn't seem to difficult, 12K feet per week, but to have to do it every week for years? Nah.

I've known guys who've done a million feet, one of them is a regular on the 41, and some even think about trying for 2 million. Then it becomes drudgery, like a job.

My friend who I rode thousands of miles with for years used to do 25K miles some years. Too many hours on the bike.

We’re all seven completed in the same foot print? or did they progressively take longer and longer. Progressively increasing in time isn’t impressive. It’s impressive that someone didn’t have work for 7 days and chose to ride all day 7 days. That’s impressive.

Yes, there is a little hint of envy jealousy there .

Corrected for you.

Question for you and anyone else who may know the answer.

Put the 105 R7000 DR on the bike along with the SL-RS700 shifters. Both are 11-speed. Front works great.

Rear doesn’t shift. Put chain on small/small, and tightened the cable. Rear doesn’t shift. Adjusted tension with barrel adjusters. No bueno.

Limit screws are properly set. I can move the DR to manually shift the rear.

What am I missing?

Disconnect cable from RD. Put modest tension on cable and shift RD shifter. Does cable move with each shift up/down? If not, recheck that cable head is properly seated inside shifter.

.

The rain quit late afternoon and I almost went out and picked up some miles but I adulted it instead and mowed the lawn.

Sounds like the cable might be too tight. But it's early. I haven't finished my coffee. I might have another answer later.

I do the same, if not better speed on rolling terrain as I do on the flats. The downhills not only provide some rest but some peak velocity as well.
Here in the flats there is no rest, without slowing significantly.

No rest for the wicked.

Speaking of flat. I was shocked to see my HR at a constant 160 today. I was not breathing hard and I was singing this group love song out loud over and over. So to me I felt almost conversational pace, like my HR should have been at 140. Power output reflected the 160 so I must have just been super fresh. Pace wasn’t bad, but I did feel a lot faster than advertised, also was wearing shoes 3 sizes too big. Roads were wet and did not want my white ones to get gross.

Posted about this a while back in a separate thread but wanted to mention it here too in case anyone has any additional tips.

I'm heading off on a bucketlist trip with my soon to be fiancée next month, we'll be in Lagos, Portugal for a week and then Mallorca (staying in Soler on the northwest coast) for a week. I plan on renting a bike in both locations. Anyone have any tips or can't-miss rides near either of those locations, and/or know of rental shops near either location?

I got more info on the cyclist fatality from Saturday. Reports are that cyclists were riding 2 abreast, the rider was in the left line and there was a sudden slowdown....guy bumped wheels and fell into oncoming traffic, hit and likely died instantly. Sad, and a reminder to be careful especially with a large group.

seedsbelize2 09-12-22 09:13 AM

So riding two abreast, they took the whole lane. Sad news in any case. I wonder if anyone will learn anything from it?

Mojo31 09-12-22 09:20 AM

Sad deal, but doesn't sound like the motorist did anything wrong and it was purely an accident.

I believe that is accurate. Report states motorist stayed on the scene. Sad all around, even the motorist likely was traumatized.

I can't comment on Portugal but see link above. Mallorca is supposedly a cycling haven. Don't forget to post pics when you go!
