Show your Motobecane Grand Jubile

I think Shinibop started this whole "show your Moto" business with his Team Champion thread, and then Rootboy comes up with a Le Champion thread, and as if that weren't enough, Chi-Town Al had to post a "Show your Grand Record thread".

- All very drool-worthy I assure you.

Well then, why hasn't anyone come up with a "Show your Grand Jubile" thread?
Are they chopped liver or something?

(Show them if you got them.)

Nothing looks quite like the 70's two tone Motobecane. Neat bikes gentlemen. How about you Auchen'?

This one I made a thread for awhile back: a city bike for my spouse:

Yup! I have a GJ too! - A favorite for slogging through winter slush and snow around here. (JK! ;))

The start of one... frame from ebay (fork replaced) thankfully I have the correct Jubilee derailers (Campagnolo dropouts) and Normandy hubs; piecing together the rest... I have a later SR Motobecane triple crank I've built as 36/40/44. Got some kinda French bar and stem here someplace, some new Sun rims, still looking for a seat, probably Weinmann sidepulls.

'75 GJ I built up for a friend in Chicago.

^^^ Such a perfect build. The mustache bars look great.

why are you guys better photographers than the grand record owners (like myself)?

so if any of you have both this and the gr model in the same size, we're all interested to know how the framesets compare in dimensions, angle, etc...

1978, owned since new, minor mods/upgrades

Already posted in another thread, but I'm always happy to show off...er, I mean, share. I love this bike! She's an '81 or an '82.

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to build up a '76 GJ, and I'm wondering if someone could post a few close ups of the brakes: levers, hangers, and calipers. I'm certain I'm short a few parts here.

Many thanks,
Tim

old's'cool 06-02-12 08:25 PM

Can do; stay tuned.

Hope this helps. They came with the standardt Weinmann center-pull set-up.
(BTW -The shoes shown are incorrect)

I recently acquired a silver/red one. Huret dropouts. This one will go as much French as possible... but I think the original brakes were Weinman. I could scare up some Mafacs I think... I have high expectations for this bike actually and was surprised that the seat post was a 26.6. It will get Miallard 700 hubs, probably a TA crank, Atom Pedals, Huret shifting, Ideale saddle, maybe even fenders after reviewing the images in this thread.... and a rack...or Two.

Thanks, Auchen, I almost pm'd you directly figuring that you had the pics on hand :)

I'm looking at these thinking that there is no QR on the brakes, but it would be nice to have one.

And, old's'cool, keep the pics coming, we'd love to see what you've got! ;)

Here's my '74 Grand Jubile'. I think the GJ is a real classic with all french components except for the brakes.

Most components should not be too hard to source, but if you can't find what you need, I am pretty sure I can supply what you can't find.

As for the brake levers, in auchen's picture, the quick releases are built right into the lever and work just great, in my opinion.
